WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is putting in all the work ahead of his exhibition bout in Riyadh. The Gypsy King will go head to head against Francis Ngannou to determine the baddest fighter on the planet and then take on yet another formidable opponent. Although the British pugilist is used to fighting big names he will be entering the ring after almost a year.
Tyson last fought Derek Chisora in Tottenham on December 3, 2022 and had been searching for an opponent since. Although there were a couple of issues with contract negotiations, Fury has huge events lined up ahead of him. That said during his one-year lay-off, Tyson had gained a considerable amount of weight.
The 33-0-1, fighter had to go early into his training camp for his bout with Ngannou. According to Fury, a normal training camp lasts for 5 to six weeks. But for his bout with the Cameroonian fighter, the 35-year-old had to train for 12 weeks.

During his recent interview with former opponent Derek Chisora, Fury also stated that he had lost a considerable amount of weight. The Gypsy King was following the ketogenic diet and managed to shed 150 lbs of weight in merely 4 weeks of time.
“I’ve been training now, by the time the fight comes up 12 weeks. I usually only train five six weeks but I’ve been out since last year, last December. I’ve lost like 150 pounds in like 4 weeks just by dieting, Keto diet,” said Fury.
This is not the first time the British fighter has used a ketogenic diet to prepare for his fights. Let’s take a deep dive into Tyson Fury’s highly effective weight-loss diet.
A deep dive into Tyson Fury’s ketogenic diet
Ahead of his fight with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, Tyson Fury has shed 150 lbs for peak performance. Although Fury had to go through a longer fight camp, he credits most of his weight loss to his ketogenic diet.
The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, high-protein and minimal or no-carb diet that helps the body to burn fat faster. Normally the human body converts the carbohydrates in food to glucose to produce energy.
However, due to the lack of carbohydrates in the keto diet, the body burns excess fat to replace it as an energy source.
During his appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience Fury stated that he followed a dirty keto diet. Tyson would indulge in eating fried meat with cheese and mayonnaise. However, he would keep his sugar and carb intake to a minimum and also quit drinking.
“The Keto diet done correct is ok but I was doing it dirty. I was having four double patties with cheese and mayonnaise. I was having tons of meat fried up cheese and mayonnaise, bacon, eggs, sausage whatever,” said the 35-year-old.
While the diet may sound unhealthy, it helped Fury lose a ton of body weight. The Keto diet proved helpful when Tyson was overcoming depression and preparing for his comeback and even now Fury pledges by it.
