David Beckham became one of the most prominent figures in the Manchester United squad under the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson. The former United manager, Alex Ferguson, shared a close relationship with the midfielder. The duo were a part of the Red Devils’ most successful team over the years.
The former England international David Beckham scored an iconic goal for Manchester United against AFC Wimbledon in the year 1996. Becks executed the goal from an approximate distance of about 60 yards out, in a Barclays Premier League match.
However, the 48-year-old revealed something that happened to him after his wonder goal. In a recent report from ‘Success Resolve’ Becks stated – “I walked off the pitch, the manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) said to me David you get on the bus and you don’t say a word, no interviews”.
As per the reports, the main reason behind former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson not letting his number seven do the interviews was because he probably wanted Becks to not get over-enthusiastic and carried away from the attention received by him after his marvelous goal.
Also, it’s been termed that the manager was pretty well aware that Manchester United is quite a large club, and his team and players would need to deliver performances consistently to win titles and fulfill the expectations of the fans and the club’s hierarchy.
Sir Alex is known to be a character that hasn’t quite believed in expressing or talking much over the years, and would rather talk to his players separately than talk about them openly. He probably expected the same thing from the players playing under him at the Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s opinion regarding the wonder goal scored by David Beckham
Sir Alex Ferguson was full of praise for Beckham’s stunning Premier League goal in his post-match interview. The veteran manager when asked about the goal, stated – “Excellent, absolutely superb, first game day of the season, you have to say it will be the goal of the season”.
He further inflicted that it would “take something wonderful to beat that (Beck’s goal)“. Sir Alex expressed that he had “never seen” something like that before. The former Manchester United manager insisted that maybe Beckham had in his mind that the opponent’s goalkeeper was out of his line.
However, he still persisted with his appreciation for the unbelievable goal and asserted – “But what a marvelous strike of the ball dear me”. It can be drawn out from his statements that, despite not letting his midfielder do interviews after the goal, Sir Alex was internally pretty happy with what the player achieved that day.
