Other anecdotes demonstrate his aptitude for downing beers. When challenged about his 117 drinks in one sitting during a 1984 appearance on “Late Night with David Letterman,” Andre admitted that he used to drink a lot and couldn’t keep count. Andre’s Japanese sponsors gave him a case of pricey plum wine as a thank-you on one tour.
Andre took up residence at the rear of the bus and began consuming alcohol. When the bus pulled up at the next location four hours later, Andre was finishing the final bottle of wine. Andre entered the ring right away and competed in three matches, one of which was a twenty-man battle royal.

He disclosed that the Giant used to eat over 20 pounds of meals per city and would take a dump of the same amount. Tim White, a former WWE referee, claimed that Andre once consumed 12 steaks and 15 lobsters in one sitting. It is also reported that he drank beer every day which had about 7000 calories. Due to his weird eating and drinking routines, at the age of 46, the great wrestler succumbed to congestive heart failure while sleeping in 1993. He was made the inaugural inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame as a mark of respect from WWE.
