Virgil Van Dijk was the hero for Liverpool as they sank Chelsea in the extra-time to secure the 2024 Carabao Cup. The header from the Dutch center-back should have grabbed all the headlines after the match, but Konstantinos Tsimikas had other plans.
Tsimikas, the Greek left-back of Liverpool, was the first person that joined Virgil van Dijk in the celebrations of the match-winner. While a normal knee slide would have done the trick, however, the defender did some questionable actions with the Dutch center-back that drew some interesting reactions from the soccer community.

Many fans argued that the 32-year-old center-back is walking toward the twilight of his career. However, another impressive season in the Premier League and a cup-winning goal against Chelsea prompted the Dutch center-back to hit back at his haters.
The Dutch international stated sarcastically: “They thought I was finished,” in the dressing room after the match. The statement was followed by a cheeky smirk to signal that Virgil van Dijk is far from finished at the English club even though the saga of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool is coming to an end.
Virgil van Dijk will return to action with Liverpool in the FA Cup on February 28. They will host Southampton in the fifth round of the cup competition. Then the English club will travel to Nottingham Forest on March 2 in a Premier League fixture.
