Shakira and Gerard Pique continue to give media outlets new stories to cover regarding their breakup. The separation of Shakira from Pique has been one of the most covered breakups recently. They have been at each other’s throats and the media keeps having field days. The latest development allegedly sees physical harm being inflicted by Shakira on Pique’s mother.
Pique’s mother, Montserrat Bernabeu, apparently knew about Pique’s infidelity. This led to Shakira throwing hands at her ex-mother-in-law.
“We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our top priority, we ask for respect for privacy. Thank you for your understanding”, reads the statement.

The Colombian singer and the ex-FC Barcelona soccer player were in a relationship for over a decade. They have two sons, Sasha and Milan. However, they broke up in the summer of 2022. It came to light a little later that Pique had allegedly cheated on Shakira. The ‘Waka Waka’ singer found it via a jar of jam. In the following developments, it was revealed that Montserrat knew about her son’s infidelity and kept it a secret.
After this information came to light, it was reported that Shakira allegedly punched Montserrat. According to El Popular, “It’s all because when the relationship between Piqué and Clara Chia began, they took refuge in a house that Piqué‘s parents have in Cabrils, Spain,”
Shakira was already deeply involved in a tax fraud case with the Spanish government. Reports had suggested that she might even go to prison for it. However, not much developed in that case. On the other hand, this alleged throw of hands could also land Shakira in jail. No reports have been released as such stating that Shakira might face prison time. We await further information regarding this.
Shakira faced around $25 million fine and 8 years in prison for her alleged tax fraud case
A tumultuous second half of 2022 saw Shakira separating from long-time partner Pique and later being hounded by Spanish officials. BBC reported that “prosecutors alleged that she was living in Spain but listing her official residence elsewhere.”
Shakira was charged for an alleged tax fraud of over $15 million. If found guilty, the singer faced a $25 million fine and eight years of prison time.
In an interview with Elle, Shakira slammed the Spanish authorities. She said, “The Spanish tax authorities saw that I was dating a Spanish citizen and started to salivate. It’s clear they wanted to go after that money no matter what.”
Shakira registered Spain as her official residence in 2015 and paid taxes amounting to almost $20 million. Her lawyers said that she has no outstanding debt and nothing to be worried about. This story broke in September 2022. The Barcelona court was supposed to set a date for the trial. However, no further developments have been received yet.
