Athanasios Rotimi “Thanasis” Antetokounmpo, the elder brother of Giannis Antetokounmpo, somehow finds his name in the headlines often. What’s queer is that this recognition has nearly nothing to do with his gameplay or breaking any records. These are because of his hilarious activities, be they on the hardwood or off the court.
The Milwaukee Bucks have been urged by fans to find a replacement, as Thanasis’ struggles to help the team continue. The Greek-Nigerian NBA player plans to record more minutes on the hardwood as of now. However, @TheNBACentel on X (formerly Twitter) is quick to make claims about his retirement. The page just floated a tweet about Thanasis’ retirement.

The tweet read, “BREAKING: Thanasis Antetokounmpo has informed the Bucks he plans to retire.” The image that is attached to the tweet has a picture of Giannis’ elder brother with ‘2014-2024’ written on the right. It’s worth noting that the page appears to be an official page of NBA Centel, an account known for spreading false information. Thanasis has made no official statement about his retirement.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo has been heavily involved in trade talks
The 6-foot-7 from Athens, Greece, is often considered a classic case of nepotism. The foremost reason for this claim is his average. The 31-year-old is riding on an average of 0.8 points, 0.4 rebounds, and 0.5 assists, with 50% shooting from the deep. The elder Antetokounmpo seems nothing more than a bench player who can barely record past 10 points in a single game. The small forward has only played in 18 games this season.
The Bucks even got under the radar for the same issue. It’s obvious to the NBA fans that the elder Antetokounmpo just came in the package deal for Giannis. After all, burning a roster spot won’t matter too much if the roster gets the likes of “The Greek Freak.” However, now the Bucks have shifted into a dual role this season. Besides being the buyers to strengthen their roster, the team seems to be trading Thanasis.
The Knicks are considered the favorites to acquire Thanasis Antetokounmpo should the Milwaukee Bucks decide to trade him, per @BovadaOfficial

The New York Knicks are reportedly the favorites to acquire the player if the Bucks really decide to trade him. The only question that prevails is: will the Bucks be able to retain Giannis after they trade his brother?
