SUMMARY
- Caitlin Clark recently made her debut for the Indiana Fever in the WNBA.
- She scored 21 points while record five made three-pointers against the Dallas Wings.
Over the last couple of months, fans have compared Caitlin Clark to numerous legendary athletes who have competed or are competing in the NBA. She has arguably been the most dominant force in women’s basketball we’ve ever seen and after her Indiana Fever debut, there’s no doubt she’ll rank among the best of the best.
Recently, Michael Porter Jr. of the Denver Nuggets addressed the talk going on among fans. During an episode of The Full Send Podcast, the Nuggets superstar addressed the differences between men’s and women’s basketball and why the latter wouldn’t find much success. While that’s a topic of its own, Aaron Steinberg (Steiny) asked Porter Jr. about Clark and how she would fair in the NBA.
Michael Porter Jr. claims Caitlin Clark won’t succeed as much in the NBA
Michael Porter Jr. has emerged as one of the strongest competitor/role players in the NBA this season playing alongside 2x MVP Nikola Jokic and point guard Jamal Murray. MPJ, an NBA Champion claimed that Caitlin Clark wouldn’t be able to withstand his defense. “Caitlin’s cold, that’s the one girl that I was like okay… if she was in an NBA game, yeah, on defense she would get cooked. But offensively, she’ll knock down some corner threes or like swing, swing, three. She actually would cause she can shoot from that far you know,” he said.
While there are limitations for women to compete in the NBA in terms of physicality, Clark would certainly be a threat either way due to his impressive shooting ability. There isn’t any formal rule that restricts women from entering the league. If Clark decided to transition into the NBA, she wouldn’t be the first to do it either. Recently, the NBA collaborated with its counterpart to host a three-point contest between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu. These were small steps taken in hopes of uniting both leagues at some level.
The No.1 overall pick’s debut with the Fever showed her unique shot creation
Caitlin Clark made her WNBA debut with the Fever a few days ago. Indiana’s opening preseason opener was against the Dallas Wings. The 22-year-old battled against Jaelyn Brown who went undrafted in 2021 but has become a big part of the Wings organization. But Clark still managed to steal the spotlight playing in front of a sold-out Gainbridge Fieldhouse arena. There were 6,000+ in attendance.
