After almost a year-long wait, the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is finally out. Rockstar Games has ended its silence, giving players what they’ve been waiting for. Although, the trailer was leaked before the scheduled time, nonetheless, Rockstar launched the trailer early thus making sure fans saw the “real thing.”
The first trailer of GTA 6 reveals and confirms a lot of details about the game, which were to date merely speculations or rumors. Besides, it also gives a sneak peek into what the fans can expect from the game such as animals, and more.
Among the various things confirmed was the long-standing rumor that GTA will be based in Vice City, the game’s version of real-life Miami.
GTA 6 set in Vice City
The 90-second-long GTA 6 trailer confirmed Vice City as the official location for the upcoming title. For the unknown, the Vice City location first appeared in the original Grand Theft Auto back in 1997. Every locality in the game was based on a real-life city in the United States, wherein Vice City was inspired by Miami.
Later in 2002, Vice City made a return, this time on a much larger scale with the release of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This game took players back to Vice City set in 1986. GTA: Vice City to date remains one of the biggest successes for Rockstar’s GTA franchise, being widely considered one of the best games in the series. The location made an appearance once again in GTA: Vice City Stories, which debuted on Sony’s PSP in 2006.
Vice City in GTA 6 is seen to be more vibrant, lively, and modern incorporating various present-day elements.
Is GTA 6’s Vice City based in the State of Florida?
Interestingly, as against previous games wherein Vice City was identified to be a part of Florida, the GTA 6 trailer suggests that Vice City may no longer be located in the real-world state of Florida. GTA has always had this trend of recreating imaginary American states based on real ones.
In GTA 6, Rockstar has created a hypothetical state of Leonida. It is seen in the various iconography in the trailer as well as the Leonida Department of Corrections jumpsuit one of the two protagonists is seen wearing.
Leonida has taken a lot of inspiration from Florida, apart from just the rhyming name. Looking at the swamps of flamingos, gators, half-naked old people, and sticky swampland, it isn’t hard to guess it is Florida. Leonida blends Old and New Florida.
Although it is not the exact recreation, Leonida draws a lot of motivation from the diverse cities, landscapes, and cultures that make Florida unique. Players will get to interact with longtime Florida locals as well as recent transplants chasing opportunities. Similar to the real Florida, players in Leonida will also get to see a lot of gators, bizarre crimes, Cuban culture, and unpredictable weather in GTA 6.
