Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel to get a multiplayer feature
It was originally planned for, Cyberpunk 2077 to get a multiplayer feature. However, later the idea was canned so that the team could focus more on improving the game’s performance. Additionally, the devs were also focusing on the Phantom Liberty expansion.

It seems like the devs now plan to add multiplayer features in the upcoming sequel. Recently, during an interview with Reuters, the CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Badowski stated that they internally discussed the possibility of adding multiplayer to the sequel. Although the CEO did not reveal much of what was discussed, they mentioned that they were “considering” adding it in the next installment.
When asked further, Adam declined to comment. However, if the devs really add the multiplayer to the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, it would be a massive development.
When is the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel releasing?
Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel Project Orion is still early on in the development process. As stated by Adam in the interview, it is still in the “conceptual phase.” This means the developers may decide to change their minds throughout development. If that happens it is possible that the players may not get to experience multiplayer in the next game as well.
Several fans think that it will be interesting if the game does include a dedicated multiplayer, a particular quest, or even a fully multiplayer mode. Strolling and exploring through the Night City with a friend can help enhance the gameplay experience for many. Earlier there were rumors that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel would be a third-person experience.

Besides, it was also reported that the upcoming sequel will focus more on life path stories compared to the first installment. In October 2023, the developer confirmed that a team of 330 developers was working on the new Witcher titled codenamed Polaris. The team was expected to expand to roughly 400 people by the “middle of the year” as per Adam.
However, the production phase for Polaris has not yet begun according to the Reuters report. Nonetheless, the devs plan for it to start sometime this year. CD Projekt Red’s upcoming Witcher game is still far away. Thus the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is expected even further.
Reports suggest that in 2024, the Boston team of CDPR, along with the Vancouver and Warsaw teams will begin development on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. Thus it is still too early to ascertain when the game will be released.
