Kevin Durant had a lot to say about Anthony Edwards after Game 4 of the Phoenix Suns vs Minnesota Timberwolves first-round matchup. To those who might not be aware, the Timberwolves managed to make it out of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs this season and will now participate in the conference semi-finals.
While many would have expected the teams to be evenly matched, the Timberwolves completely dominated the Suns throughout this series and swept them to win 4-0. Since the Suns entered the season with championship aspirations, there is no denying that being swept in the first round would have felt quite frustrating or disappointing.
Kevin Durant reveals that he admires all aspects of Anthony Edwards’ game and mentality
Despite having a worse record when compared to the Timberwolves, the Suns had defeated them in their matchups throughout the regular season. Adding to that mix, the Suns’ experience and talent, one could argue that Phoenix was favored by the majority of the NBA world to win this series.
However, not many could have predicted that Edwards would attain superstar status and elevate his play to an elite level in the postseason. Ant did just that and was undoubtedly the best player on the Timberwolves throughout the 4 games. He also engaged in trash talk and celebrations to bring a sense of rivalry into this matchup against KD and the Suns.
Although Durant certainly wanted to win this series, he could not hold back his feelings of admiration towards Anthony Edwards while discussing the Timberwolves star at Game 4’s postgame interview.
KD continued, “Imma be watching him going forward and I know he’s gonna go out there play extremely hard every single night but I was really impressed with him and he’s going to be somebody that there’s somebody I’m going to be following for the rest of his career.”
It is truly a testament to Edwards that he was able to turn KD into an admirer and well wishes as opposed to a critic and hater. After all, Durant has been considered salty and petty by several members of the NBA media. Regardless of his frustration and sense of disappointment over losing, Durant still chose to speak highly of his opponent.
Anthony Edwards’ respect for KD has finally been reciprocated
Ant is one of the few stars who has worked on his game enough to turn his idols into his rivals. It might surprise some fans to hear that Edwards has a tremendous sense of respect for Durant and even called KD his favorite player some time ago.
