CD Projekt Red recently surprised fans by dropping a new and unexpected update to one of its most celebrated games, Cyberpunk 2077. The latest update called Update 2.1 arrived in the game on December 5, 2023, adding a impressive number of new features and updates to the game.
In September this year, Cyberpunk 2077 received its first major and planned update and expansion in the form of update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty. Earlier reports suggested that these would be the last major changes that the game would see since the developers had shifted their focus on Cyberpunk’s Project Orion sequel and the next Witcher game.
Amidst this, the Cyberpunk 2077 patch 2.1 comes as a pleasant surprise. The update includes many required changes such as accessibility features. It also introduces many content updates for vehicles as well as the long-standing metro system.
The latest update 2.1 for Cyberpunk 2077 was explained during a livestream by developers from CD Projekt Red on December 1, 2023. It was made available on December 5, which is the same day when the Ultimate Edition of Cyberpunk 2077 goes live. The update enables the protagonist, V to finally enjoy a scenic ride on the NCART metro line while doing a lot of fun activities.
New content included in Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.1
The new patch brings in a lot of new additions, the most notable among them is the new metro system that is finally adding to Cyberpunk 2077. The metro has appeared frequently in multiple trailers long before the game’s release as well as the trailers for Phantom Liberty. This led to constant requests from fans to CD Projekt Red to add the feature to the game.
Apart from using the metro for faster travel, V can also now enjoy scenic rides through Night City. There are five separate operating metro lines connecting 19 stations being added.
Other interesting additions are the option to replay car races post completing Claire’s quests, changes to motorcycle driving, hangouts with romantic partners, and much more. Here is the new content added in Patch 2.1:
- Night City Area Rapid Transit (NCART) metro system, featuring 19 metro stations (metro stations can still be used as fast travel points)
- Radioport cyberware can be used to listen to radio stations while on foot
- Enhanced boss fights
- Replayable car races to provide money and discounts on new vehicles
- Multiple new cars and motorcycles, including a swanky open-top Porsche
- Improved combat on motorcycles, thus enabling V to throw knives and axes while riding
- New motorcycle maneuvers, such as wheelies, tricks, leans

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.1 Accessibility and Quality of Life changes
Many players feel that the accessibility features introduced in Update 2.1 are game-changers. These include items that have been desperately needed, but not expected. Text size and aim assists are some of them. Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 also automatically adds the new accessibility tab to the game.
This dedicated tab for Accessibility features makes many aspects of the game more pleasing for many players and is a positive step towards inclusivity.
Here are the new accessibility options added in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1:
- Three colorblind modes, namely, Protanopia, Deuteranopia, and Tritanopia added
- Added subtitle options for cinematic, radio, and overhead, including adding background conversations above NPCs’ heads
- Text size can be adjusted
- Text background opacity can be adjusted
- Aim assists for melee (three levels of varying assist), vehicle (on or off), and ranged combat (four levels of varying assist)
- Additional camera settings were added to reduce motion sickness, such as reduced secondary camera movements, and an optional dot in the center of the screen
- The vibration level can be adjusted
- A toggle for applying weapon sway while aiming at the camera or weapon
- Toggle to disable haptic feedback
Players must note that the size of the latest 2.1 patch stands at 37.8 GB on PlayStation 5, 43 GB on PC, and a whopping 53.68 GB on Xbox. The Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 launch in September restricted the title to only current generation consoles, that is the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. Thus only these consoles will be able to enjoy update 2.1 as well.
