WWE veteran Rey Mysterio has been one of the loyal servers for the promotion. Since joining the company back in 2002, the 48-year-old has achieved a lot in the Stamford-based promotion. But it seems that now he’s nearing the end of his professional wrestling career.
The hint of a possible retirement was given himself by The Ultimate Underdog in March 2023. This happened when the former WWE Champion appeared for an interview with WESH 2 News. During the conversation, Rey talked about his retirement and shared that he plans to retire before turning 50.
The Master of the 619 said, “I’ve always had this number in mind and it just kept getting higher and higher every single time just because how great my body has been feeling and overall. But, I had 5-0, 50 was the number that I said I was — I cannot and I don’t think I will go past it.” (Via: ClutchPoints)

As Mysterio is going to turn 49 on December 11, 2023, fans have been asking if WrestleMania 39 was his last appearance on the event. The reason behind this is that by the time next year’s WrestleMania comes, he’ll already be 49. And who knows if he’ll retire before The Show of Shows in 2024.
Even though, the 48-year-old has plans to retire before entering 50s, he’s still really fit. Being the reigning US Champion he’s doing pretty well, and looking at the situation he’ll most probably be available for WrestleMania 40. But it remains to be seen when he will eventually say goodbye to the professional wrestling world.
Rey Mysterio is set to compete at WWE Fastlane
Despite nearing his 50s, The Master of the 619 is still a full-time performer and is currently reigning supreme on the blue brand. In a similar fashion, the United States Champion is set to compete at the Stamford-based promotion’s upcoming premium live event, WWE Fastlane.
The 5-foot-6-inch veteran is scheduled to be involved in a massive 6-man tag team match at the event. During the show, Rey Mysterio will team up with his fellow LWO teammates to compete against the team of Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits.
Due to this match, speculations are being made about a potential US title feud between Rey and The All Mighty. Whether this rumor is actually going to become a reality or not isn’t yet known. But fans are quite excited about The Biggest Little Man’s appearance at the October 7 event.

Alongside Mysterio’s match, Fastlane is also set to feature a number of other high-profile bouts. On Saturday’s show, LA Knight and John Cena will team up to take on Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa.
Moreover, Seth Rollins is set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship on the PLE. Looking at the match card, it’s safe to say that the event is going to be an amazing one. But can the 48-year-old legend be the one who shines the most during this show? Only the future knows the answer to this question.
