Ian Garry is one of the top prospects in the UFC’s welterweight division. Having made his way to the UFC in 2021, Garry took the community by storm with his performances. Although his initial hype has taken a lot of hits, he still remains one of the most talented fighters on the roster.
For those unaware, ‘The Future‘ made his way to the UFC after becoming a Cage Warriors champion. Following his arrival at the UFC, there was a lot of hype surrounding him after his debut win at UFC 268. Following his debut win over Jordan Williams, Garry also bested the likes of Darian Weeks, Gabe Greena, and Song Kennan.
With his latest wins against Daniel Rodriguez and Neil Magny, Garry finds himself in the Top 10. Although he has been very impressive inside the Octagon, there is still room and potential for improvement. All things considered, there is a reason why Garry is seen as a top prospect. As such, many may be interested in knowing where and which gym he trains at.
Why was Ian Garry kicked out of Leon Edwards’ gym?
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about Ian Garry and his gym. Specifically, the gym he was kicked out of for not following the proper decorum. Most recently, a story broke about how Ian was reportedly kicked out of Team Renegade, the gym where UFC Welterweight Champ Leon Edwards trains. Whilst Garry had an explanation for the matter, the consensus was entirely different.
According to the Irishman, he was not kicked out of Team Renegade. Instead, he claims that he was asked by Leon Edwards’ head coach to leave, who felt as though he and Leon were on a collision course. As such, the coach chose to ‘protect’ his fighter and not have him feel insecure or have any doubts.

For the most part, Ian’s response was clowned with stories about his gym behavior coming out. Notably, this was clarified by Veronica Hardy, who also trained at the same gym. Interestingly, Hardy pointed out that Ian had developed a reputation for being thrown out of gyms for not being on time, spreading gossip, and always having numerous cameras around.
Where did Ian Garry train ahead of UFC 296?
With that said, it was always interesting to see where Ian would end up next. Notably, the Irishman also had a stint at the highly acclaimed Kill Cliff FC, which houses a host of top welterweight talent. Interestingly, Ian’s time at Kill Cliff did not last very long after reports emerged of his unruly behavior. Additionally, there were also stories of him being knocked out in sparring by another UFC fighter.

Thus, ahead of UFC 296, the undefeated welterweight opted for a change of scenery. For his now-canceled fight against Vicente Luque, Garry has traveled to Brazil to train at Chute Boxe Academy. After training under Diego Lima and the rest of the crew, the Irishman has found a new place to call home. Notably, this is also the same gym that former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira trains at.
According to Garry, he has been welcomed by the people with open arms. Despite all the talk and controversy around him, the 26-year-old feels accepted by the people. As such, Garry has also declared that he is working on getting a Brazilian passport and will be donning the yellow shorts for his fights.
