Alexander Volkanovski is considered to be one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in the world of mixed martial arts right now. The ‘Great’ has been one of the most dominant champions in the featherweight division of the UFC.
The fact that Alexander Volkanovski once weighed a lot more than he does now is widely known. It’s almost incredible that Volkanovski competes in the UFC’s featherweight class after playing college football as a person who weighed more than 200 lbs.
Volk competes in the 145-pound division of the sport, but this is not what he usually weighs. For those who don’t know, fighters must set their weight limitations before the ceremonial weigh-ins. After their weight has been recorded, they are then given time to refuel and hydrate themselves after the weigh-ins, so they typically enter the ring a little heavier than the division’s official limits.
Volkanovski’s walk-around weight is around 180 lbs. He loses about 35 lbs to qualify for a featherweight fight. Of course, his weight-cut process was a bit different when he took UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 284 as that fight was at 155 lbs.
From some perspective, the Australian champion Volk is not a very tall man. He stands at 5 feet 6 inches, and the increase in weight of 10 lbs meant a tremendous increase in power because of the added muscle mass. This made him an absolute beast, as he almost pulled off a victory against Islam.
Alexander Volkanovski’s training and diet
Alexander works hard to maintain his position as the best of the best in the world’s biggest MMA promotion. Alexander’s training is widely known because he frequently posts about it on his YouTube account. His typical training regime combines grappling, boxing, Jiu-Jitsu freestyle fighting, and other combat styles.
He also likes working out in the weight room with full-body weights and explosive strength. He engages in training at least twice every day for five days a week. His workouts are focused on improving his cardio, agility, and core strength with the help of strength and weight training.
Alexander generally consumes a balanced diet, especially while in training. He has a very clean and nutritious diet, but his meals are tasty, as he regularly shows in his YouTube videos. Alexander has a favorite meal when it comes to his training days, and he refers to it as Volk chicken.
Obviously, Alexander requires a lot of carbohydrates each day because he frequently burns more than 1000 calories in a single workout, and he performs two to three of them daily. Overall, a blend of protein and healthy carbohydrates is the secret to Volk’s undeniable power and durability inside the octagon.
