SUMMARY
- The Day Before had one of the most infamous runs on Steam.
- After failing miserably, The Day Before is shutting down only 45 days from its launch.
The much-anticipated game, The Day Before, from Fntastic Games has turned out to be a disaster that no one could have imagined. After failing terribly and causing the developers to close down the company, the game is now all set to draw its curtains.
Initially advertised as a live-service survival game, The Day Before became one of the most pre-ordered and talked-about games on Steam. The response from the community painted a promising future for the game. However, things went down south when the game actually launched its early access on December 7, 2023. Players discovered that it was extremely buggy, unfinished, and not a live service.
Besides what infuriated the fans the most was the fact that the actual game hardly resembled what the developers were promising all these years. Looking at the negative response, the developer, Fntastic, announced that they are shutting down citing “The Day Before has failed financially, and we lack the funds to continue.,” as the reason.

After the developer closed its shutter with “immediate effect” publisher and investor Mytona stepped forward announcing that they would be offering refunds to all players who purchased the game on Steam. Amidst all this, the future of the game was uncertain. Especially since in its closure announcement, Fntastic stated, “future of The Day Before and Propnight is unknown, but the servers will remain operational.”
The Day Before shuts down
More than a week later, the community received a surprising announcement from the developer on December 22, 2023. Fntastic has announced that The Day Before is also going to be shut down a month later.
The developers issued a statement announcing the news on the game’s official X page. The statement confirms the shutting down of Fntastic and adds that the servers for the game will be taken offline on January 22, 2023. The statement reads, “We regret to inform you that the development company Fntastic has officially ceased operations, and as a result The Day Before will be retired and the servers will be turned off on 22 January 2024.”
It further continues, “We extend our gratitude for the community’s support throughout the project’s life. Unfortunately, without a development team, we had no alternative choice but to officially close the project. We sincerely thank all of our supporters throughout this journey and wish you all a happy holiday season.”

The statement also restates that refunds for The Day Before are being offered by the company’s investor, Mytona. Anyone who hasn’t received the refund yet can expect to get their money back through Steam.
Fans continue to call The Day Before a “Scam”
Although a game shutting down in merely 45 days seems to be a little unfortunate, the players think otherwise. Disappointed and furious players continued to condemn the makers as soon as the news broke out. Several fans accused the developers of fraud, others expressed their satisfaction that the game was finally shutting down.
A user named ‘SlimMerch’ wrote, “At this point, I don’t think there’s really any apology that’s guna fix the damage. Just refund players at this point and remain silent and leave the gaming industry to actual developers and publishers.”
Similarly, there were tons of comments calling The Day Before a “Scam,” “Scam game,” and “Scam failed.”
