Former Barcelona player Gerard Pique’s ex-partner and pop singing sensation Shakira has a massive fan following all over the world. The Colombian singer has produced many chartbuster singles and albums throughout her musical career.
Shakira had a much-talked-about relationship with Gerard Pique. The duo also have two children. However, things went sour after some time between the couple and they got divorced. Since then the Colombian singer has been hitting the headlines regarding news related to her separation from Pique.
However, this time, reportedly, the pop singer has received a three-year suspended sentence. Shakira’s suspended sentence is related to her tax fraud. Reports say, the singer has acknowledged her failure to pay a tax sum of around $15.88 million to the Spain government from the year 2012 to 2014.
The 46-year-old had agreed to a deal that would enable her to settle her tax fraud. In the reported deal the singer-songwriter would pay a fine in excess of $7.51 million to the Spain prosecuting authorities. However, in addition to paying the fine, she would get a suspended sentence.
However, the suspended sentence doesn’t involve any kind of prison period to be served by the singer. Reports suggest, that the suspended sentence complies with the rule breaker committing not being involved in any further offenses. Also, in addition to that agreeing to go by any further conditions imposed.
Regardless of its nature, the suspended sentence is marked as a punishment in the eyes of the law. Sometimes, the term is also enabled when the lawful custodial sentence is not in excess of a two-year period of time as per the law.
Shakira’s statement after settling her tax fraud
The former partner of Gerard Pique reportedly gave her thoughts after agreeing upon a deal for her tax fraud settlement. Reports suggest, the singer stated – “Throughout my career, I have always strived to do what’s right” in order to leave a positive example for other people.
The Colombian artist then further inflicted that despite her confidence that her lawyers would have been able to “defend” her “innocence”. Also, the trial could have “ruled in her favor”. She expressed – “I have made this decision to finally resolve the matter with the best interest of my kids at heart”. She stated that her children would not want her personal well-being being dented in the trial.
Shakira also asserted – “I need to move past the stress and emotional toll and focus on the things I love”. From her fans’ point of view, it is quite clear that she didn’t want the trial to come between her personal life and her singing career. That’s why she probably chose to settle it instead of taking it any further.
