Aged 23 years old, and entering the prime age of his career, Ferran Torres doesn’t want to be an impact substitute for his team. Such intentions have led his entourage to have poor relationships with the coaching staff at FC Barcelona.
With FC Barcelona signing the teenage sensation Vitor Roque in January, Ferran Torres has felt it to the heart. Instead of being a starter for the club he loved, the Catalan giants are looking for a replacement. With such statements being put by Barcelona, Ferran Torres has thought to take a side step and start a new career in newer surroundings.
Is Ferran Torres a flop signing or not?
Ferran Torres, Spanish side Valencia’s academy graduate, joined FC Barcelona from Manchester City back in January 2022. When he joined the Catalan giants, many thought he would be a star player to replace the legend leaving, Lionel Messi.
Coming from Manchester City, Ferran Torres learned the basics and the mentality from one of the greatest coaches of all time, Pep Guardiola. With such an upbringing, Torres was a player who had elite skills as he had already managed to win 2 Premier Leagues aged just 21 years old back then.
With such honors, he also managed to bag 16 goals as well as contributing to 4 assists in just 43 matches across all competitions for Manchester City. Holding such high praise for his career at Manchester City, anybody would have thought he would only deliver good for FC Barcelona when he arrived.
Providing 9 goal contributions in just 18 matches after joining the Catalonians, Ferran Torres lived up to the hype he came to. But as soon as the new season started, things weren’t looking the same as before.
As the 2022/23 season started, Ferran Torres began to show inconsistent performances week after week, which produced massive doubt among Barcelona fans. Across the whole season, he went on to bag just 7 goals and provide 3 assists in an astonishing 45 matches in all competitions.
With such performances, he lost his place in the squad to Raphinha and was beginning to be left out as a substitute for most of the season. Considering he was bought for £48 million ($60 million) and producing such inconsistent performances many believe he hasn’t been the player the fans were looking out for.
