- Alex Scott joined Micah Richards, whereas Kate Abdo joined Jamie Carragher to select TOTY.
Jude Bellingham and Micah Richards ganged up on Jamie Carragher when the trio sat down for CBS Sports to decide the Team of the Year for 2023. The trio was also joined by host Kate Abdo and former Arsenal player, Alex Scott.
They were split into teams to make two teams of 11 different players. Alex Scott joined Micah Richards, whereas Kate Abdo joined Jamie Carragher. Jude Bellingham joined via video call to select the best side from the two options.
The segment had some funny moments that showed the amazing chemistry between the panel. Jamie Carragher led the way with some big statements. The former Liverpool defender went ahead to select a midfielder. He introduced the player as a young superstar from England who has lit the Champions League alight this season.
Everyone was expecting Carragher to pick Jude Bellingham, however, he shocked the panel and Bellingham himself when he selected Declan Rice over the Real Madrid midfielder. Both teams completed the selections and discussed the final 11.
Jamie Carragher was thrilled with his front three of Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, and Lionel Messi. He named Mbappe as the best player in the world at the moment. Jude Bellingham pushed back on the selection by stating: “There is not enough energy in there.” Micah Richards jumped in and agreed: “There’s no legs, There’s no legs.” Bellingham came back and concluded: “A lot of walking.”
Carragher was shocked by these statements from Bellingham and Richards. He pushed back by stating: “I tell you what Jude, have a race with Mbappé and see what happens”? The statement brought laughter all around the set as Kate Abdo moved on and asked Bellingham to pick a team from the two options.
Jude Bellingham sides with Micah Richards against Jamie Carragher
Bellingham might be right in his critique of the front three of Mbappe, Kane, and Messi. Both the wingers in this front three are known to have a low defensive work rate. Kane might drop deep to help out the midfielders, but the overall defensive energy might be low, which might hurt them against high-pressing teams.
Moving on to the teams. The team selected by Micah Richards and Alex Scott had Allison in goal. A back four of William Saliba, Virgil van Dijk, Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Federico Dimarco. A midfield three of Rodri, Pedri, and Jude Bellingham and a front three of Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, and Vincius Jr.

On the other end, Jamie Carragher and Kate Abdo had Mike Maignan in goal. A back line of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kim Min Jae, John Stones, and Theo Hernandez. A midfield three of Kevin de Bruyne, Decland Rice and Jamal Musiala.
Kate Abdo asked Bellingham to select the team, and the Real Madrid midfielder sided with Micah Richards and Alex Scott. He argued that he loved the freedom in the midfield with him running the show with low defensive responsibilities. Maybe a little bias from Jude Bellingham but it helped in making the segment a hit for CBS.
