Harry Kane missed a decisive penalty. It has sent England out of the World Cup in the quarterfinal against France. The role of penalties in the major international tournaments for England is an affair to forget. The biggest match Qatar World Cup ended in tears for the English fans.
In the recent Euro, 2021 final England’s hearts were broken in the penalty shootout against the Italians. Youngsters like Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho faced national backlash following their misses. England has a long agonizing history related to penalties. Harry Kane’s horrible penalty miss added another chapter to that agony.
Aurelien Tchouameni opened the scoreline against the Three Lions with an incredible long ranger. After conceding the early goal England took a firm charge in the match. Bukayo Saka’s fluid movement caused a lot of problems for the French defense and they ended the half on a high note.
Aurelién Tchouaméni. 🚀 #Qatar2022
The man who Jurgen Klopp wanted at all costs after spent days calling the player in May… but also the man who only wanted to join Real Madrid.

The pressure from England ultimately paid off when Tchouameni tripped Saka inside the box. Kane stepped up and converted the penalty. Giroud’s bullet header gave the lead back to France, but there was more drama to follow. Substitute Mason Mount was shoved inside the penalty box by Theo Hernandez and VAR awarded another penalty.
Harry Kane’s clubmate Hugo Lloris was in the opponent’s goal. Kane tried to be unpredictable and put it under the roof of the net, he skied into the stands. Marcus Rashford’s last-minute free-kick went over the bar as well, sending the world champions through to the semis.

Absolutely gutted. We’ve given it everything and it’s come down to a small detail which I take responsibility for. There’s no hiding from it, it hurts and it’ll take some time to get over it but that’s part of sport. pic.twitter.com/lw5Esl4fnA

Let’s wait and see if Harry Kane will get the same treatment Saka, Rashford and Sancho got for missing penalties

Although Harry Kane’s miss and apology received mixed reactions, mostly positive. A lot of people questioned English fans’ dignity when Saka, Rashford, and Sancho were racially abused by them. England’s supremely talented squad again left another World Cup empty-handed.
