Manchester United’s poor on-the-pitch performance last season was reflected in the soccer club’s financial results as its losses widened. Manchester United have been facing financial struggles since last year, as they owe $1.2 billion through a combination of gross debt, bank borrowings, and outstanding transfer fees with associated payments. This has led to the sale of the club, which still is uncertain.
According to Fabrizio Romano, an Italian soccer journalist, on ‘The Debrief‘ podcast for CaughtOffside, Manchester United could have landed either Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen, if the alleged takeover had been completed earlier.

With the takeover, United would have gone for more prominent strikers like Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen. But United were unable to sign either of them due to financial reasons. The financial reasons could’ve been an issue; links for that kind of player couldn’t materialize, and they had to go with a different strategy by signing Hojlund.
He discussed the situation on today’s Debrief by saying, “My feeling is that all parties involved don’t want to comment”. He says they were planning to complete the takeover before the summer transfer window, but nothing has materialized. All parties are trying to be as quiet as possible, as they are all anxious. “Still, my sources say things seem to be happening behind the scenes, but parties prefer to keep it secret,” Fabrizio added.

The Glazer Brothers, owners of Manchester United, decided to put the Old Trafford club up for auction in late 2022 for a reported $7.5 billion. Two main buyers have emerged in the form of Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim and INEOS, fronted by British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However, it is thought that neither party has been willing to offer the amount that the Glazers are demanding to complete a sale.
The United fans are frustrated over this situation as they have been protesting against the current owners for quite a long time. And if the current takeover had taken place earlier, it could have changed their fortunes.
