Antonella Roccuzzo, who is the wife of Argentina’s veteran soccer player Lionel Messi, has often managed to grab the headlines since her partner’s move to the MLS club Inter Miami. Antonella has quite often been spotted in the stadiums supporting her husband during the matches.
The 35-year-old partner of Lionel Messi holds a vivid interest in soccer. However, since the last year or so there has been an ongoing Soccer vs. Football debate going around in online media. Antonella Roccuzzo recently posted a story on one of her social media accounts, which might have accidentally ended this debate.
She has called herself a soccer mom in her Instagram story posted while watching the Inter Miami academy-based matches. Fans from different corners of the world were quick to jump on this report. They expressed their opinions regarding the term soccer used by Leo’s wife.

One of the fans pressingly stated – “If the GOATS wife calls it soccer, it’s called soccer”. Another one chipped in and asserted – “That’s it. No more debate”. A follower ironically wrote – “Cuz that seals the deal. If the wife of the best soccer player ever calls it soccer, who are we to disagree?”

Another fan sarcastically expressed – “Yep because one country calls it that?” From the reactions of the fans, it can be inferred that they are quite sure that the soccer vs. football debate has been put to bed after Leo’s wife Antonella Roccuzzo has preferably termed the sport as soccer.
A famous American publishing company joined the soccer vs. football fiesta
The well-known American publishing company Merriam-Webster handed out a post on their official ‘X’ courtesy of their original dictionary. They have stated that – ‘Soccer’ was originally the Britishers-quoted slang used to denote ‘association football’.

The information given by the publishing giants has often been termed in the soccer world. It’s just that people who are not used to calling the sport ‘soccer’ have been rigid in accepting it. Particulary fans outside the American continent have always preferred to denote it as ‘football’, despite the origin of the word ‘soccer’ coming from the Britisher’s hierarchy.
As the norm stands, ‘soccer’ would be the term that will continuously be used by Americans. Also, ‘football’ is used in the country to resemble the sport of American football. On the European font, it can be said that they are quite used to the term ‘football’ and it might remain the way it is.
