PSG’s run of bad luck continues as Neymar suffered a horrible ankle injury in PSG’s latest Ligue 1 outing. PSG lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League tie with a half-fit Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. Although Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar started for PSG in yesterday’s match against Lille, Neymar did not complete the full 90 minutes.
At the beginning of the second half, Neymar was at the receiving end of a horrible tackle. Neymar had to be carried off the pitch after being unable to play the rest of the match. However, despite losing Neymar, PSG managed to win 4-3 against Lille, with Messi and Mbappe securing PSG’s win. However, Neymar’s injury at this stage of the season has brought back the old rumors of Neymar faking an injury.

Over the past few years, Neymar has been accused of faking an injury during his sister, Rafaela Santos’ birthday, which is on March 11. While there has been a controversial theme of Neymar missing games during March, Neymar is certainly not faking it this time. Since 2013, the former Barcelona forward has been out with injury during March on seven occasions.

After the match, Mbappe also addressed Neymar’s injury and talked about his comments from the past week. As per Eurosport, Mbappe clarified, “[They were] for everyone. I’ve seen people talking about Ney and what happened afterward. It was not a dig or anything. So I hope Ney will come back soon because he’s a fundamental player for us.” PSG will be hoping for Neymar’s quick return, as they look to overturn the first-leg defeat to Bayern Munich.
Will Neymar miss the second leg against Bayern Munich?
Neymar’s ankle injury in today’s match has put PSG’s Champions League hopes in jeopardy. Neymar’s availability for the upcoming match against Bayern Munich is in serious doubt. PSG announced that the Brazilian star has suffered a sprain in his ankle, and no fracture has been found in the MRI. However, PSG will announce the actual extent of Neymar’s injury in the next 48 hours.

PSG left-back Nuno Mendes also came off with an injury during yesterday’s match against Lille. Nuno Mendes was substituted off the pitch around the 30th minute after he collided with Lille’s Jonathan Bamba. PSG skipper Marquinhos and right-back Achraf Hakimi are also currently sidelined with injuries.
With such a long injury list, PSG will be banking on their superstar duo of Messi and Mbappe during the second leg against Bayern Munich next month.
