Jurgen Klopp broke Liverpool fans’ hearts at the beginning of this year when he announced his decision to step down as the club’s head coach at the end of this season. Klopp, who arrived at the club back in 2015, led Liverpool to unprecedented success and established himself as one of the best managers in the soccer world.
While Jurgen Klopp never openly explained his reason behind leaving Liverpool, the fans suspect that it has to do something with the intense mental and physical fatigue caused by the nature of the job. Despite being one of the most successful managers in the club’s history, Klopp’s last few years have been difficult. He won the Champions League back in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020, but has failed to win any major titles since then.

However, with Klopp‘s imminent Liverpool exit just a few weeks away, reports have already emerged about the German coach’s next possible destination. According to journalist Miguel Delaney, Klopp’s former club Borussia Dortmund is planning to bring their former manager back, albeit in a different role this time. Klopp spent seven years at the Bundesliga side from 2008 to 2015.
He led them to two league titles, one DFL-Pokal title, and two DFL-Super Cup titles. Moreover, Klopp also guided Dortmund to the Champions League final in 2013 where his side was narrowly beaten by arch-rivals Bayern Munich. If the current reports stand to be true, Dortmund is planning on bringing back Klopp as head of football in 2025.
Jurgen Klopp plans on taking a sabbatical after Liverpool stint
While Borussia Dortmund is already reportedly planning Jurgen Klopp’s return, the latter has previously stated that he intends on taking a sabbatical after leaving Liverpool. When Klopp announced his shocking decision to leave Liverpool, he stated that he wanted to take a complete break from soccer for at least one year. Klopp said, “Whatever will happen in the future I don’t know now, but no club, no country, for the next year.”

The 56-year-old coach had also promised that he would never coach any English team ever again even if he went broke, displaying his loyalty and allegiance towards Liverpool. However, the aforementioned reports do suggest that Klopp might have to end his sabbatical a bit early if he intends on returning to Borussia Dortmund as the club’s head of football next year.
