With great power, comes great responsibility. This line is seemingly fitting for the recently turned 24 PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe at this moment. Last night Mbappe had a night to forget as one of his shenanigans brought out reactions from his fellow star teammate Lionel Messi.
Kylian Mbappe is currently having another very good season with PSG with 25 goals in 28 matches in all competitions. He also had an exceptional World Cup campaign with France a couple of months back, and he also won the Golden Boot of the tournament. However, things haven’t been very good since the campaign resumed.
Mbappe did manage to come up with 5 goals in one match, but that was against a sixth-tier team in the Coupe de France. The immediate comeback match ended in a disaster as PSG lost the match against RC Lens 3-1. Lionel Messi wasn’t back yet and former Arsenal and France international Thierry Henry said that Mbappe is ineffective without Messi.
Last night PSG’s Ligue 1 match against Montpellier was a forgetful outing for the French forward in particular. PSG started the match with Mbappe and Messi in the forward line, while Neymar stayed out with a medical condition. The visitors, PSG got a penalty awarded through VAR and Mbappe stepped up to take it.

Montpellier goalie Benjamin Lecomte made a fantastic save to deny PSG’s number 7. However, the penalty was retaken as Lecomte came out a bit when Mbappe took the penalty. Mbapee took it again and to everyone’s surprise, he hit the post and missed it again. The rebound came back to him and he again managed to miss it putting his shot over the bar.
These nightmare penalties even brought out Messi’s reaction who looked very confused albeit concerned about Mbappe’s performance.

The horrible night continued for the Frenchman as he went down clutching his hamstring in the opening 20 minutes of the game due to a challenge. Mbappe couldn’t continue anymore as he was taken off in the 21st minute and was replaced with Hugo Ekitike. PSG won the match 3-1 comfortably thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and co.
Kylian Mbappe’s horror night has been the talk of the town. There has always been a debate about the penalty duties at PSG. As all three star forwards take penalties for their respective national teams. Moreover, Neymar and Mbappe had controversial moments a few months ago over the penalty duties for PSG. Later it was decided that Mbappe will take it.
Fans last night were torn as Mbappe missed penalties twice when Messi was present on the pitch. Messi’s hands-on-head reaction after Mbappe’s second time missing sent the internet to meltdown and they trolled the French forward for not handing the penalty to Messi.

At the end of the day PSG fans and Galtier will remain a bit worried as they also lost Sergio Ramos to injury in the 60th minute of the match. PSG will play Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 tie on February 14. They will hope to see their star men back in full fitness for the mouthwatering face-off.
