Mason Greenwood has completed a loan move to Spanish club Getafe on the English transfer deadline day. This controversial move has raised questions in the supporters’ minds about whether or not the player’s contract at Old Trafford has been terminated.
Earlier this month, the English club concluded their six-month-long internal investigation into Mason Greenwood after he was reported with r*pe and sexual assault by his former partner Harriet Robson. United concluded the investigation and announced that the young player would not represent them again.
The club statement read, “All those involved, including Mason, recognize the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United. It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”

The statement issued by the club implies that the contract has been mutually terminated between the two parties. However, his recent loan deal proves that the player is still on contract with Manchester United.
Mason Greenwood has two years left on his contract deal with the Premier League side. As per reports, United had preferred to sell off the player before the end of the summer transfer to avoid paying. The loan deal allows the club to delay the termination of his contract for this season.

Mason Greenwood could seemingly regain his place in the Manchester United squad next season after the completion of his loan spell at La Liga club Getafe.
The official club statement read, “Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance. The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United. The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Greenwood will return to Old Trafford in 2024. However, it is very unlikely that he will be ingrained back into the first team after his return in 2024. Given the backlash United received from supporters and club members, the English club might have to sell the Englishman next season.
The young player has scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for the Premier League side since his debut in 2018. The 21-year-old was well on his way to becoming one of the favorite players of United fans. However, his conduct outside the pitch made a huge impact on his bright future at Old Trafford.
