Andre Onana had a below-par start to his career at Manchester United. The 27-year-old goalkeeper had his fair share of on-pitch troubles in his first couple of months with the Red Devils. The Cameroonian player hasn’t quite delivered on the levels expected from him so far at the club.
The goalkeeper, Andre Onana, was close to conceding a penalty in the first Premier League match of Manchester United this season against Wolves. United’s goalkeeper took both of the opponent’s strikers out without getting the ball. He made another mistake in the team’s Champions League game against Galatasaray.
However, the 27-year-old somehow redeemed himself when he saved a late penalty against FC Copenhagen in a recent Champions League outing. The goalkeeper helped his team win the match with a scoreline of 1-0. After the win, his teammate Alejandro Garnacho posted an appreciation post for Onana’s penalty save.
Alejandro Garnacho labeled his social media post with two Gorilla emojis above a picture of Manchester United‘s goalkeeper. However, reportedly, the 19-year-old soon had to delete his tweet. The club’s hierarchy made him conscious of the probable racial connotations.
As per the reports, the Cameroon goalkeeper has now come to the defense of his United teammate by taking the matter into his own hands. Andre stated, “People cannot choose what I should be offended by”. He further termed the meaning behind the emojis used by Garnacho as: “power and strength”.
People cannot choose what I should be offended by.
I know exactly what @agarnacho7 meant: power & strength.
This matter should go no further.

The Cameroon international also expressed that the incident should not be dragged further. It seems like Alejandro Garnacho had the backing of his teammate, and the intention behind his post has been understood by his goalkeeper. But, reportedly, the FA has now got the gasp of the incident, and Garnacho’s post could lead him to a ban by the FA if found guilty.
Alejandro Garnacho’s social media post on Andre Onana being investigated by FA
Andre Onana declaring that he got the real message behind his teammate’s post might not have contented the FA. According to the reports, the FA is now having a look into the whole matter for any possible breaches.
Reports further state that the 19-year-old Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has been inquired about his observations by the FA. The winger could even undergo suspension if found responsible for breaching any of the rules by the FA.
The FA had earlier taken action against some of the players. This being for any of their acts possibly deemed to breach an important code of conduct. The players had been fined and suspended to the extent found responsible by the authority. It remains to be seen how their investigation related to Alejandro Garnacho’s post pans out.
