SUMMARY
- Chelsea loss against Liverpool as they struggled throughout the match, with Darwin Nunez experiencing a challenging day.
- Darwin Nunez had an unfortunate game, hitting the woodwork four times during the match.
Chelsea’s crushing 4-1 loss to Premier League toppers Liverpool on January 31 was the result of being dominated and overpowered. Jurgen Klopp’s team ran wild at Anfield against a collection of players who occasionally resembled deer caught in headlights, and the Blues looked second-best from start to finish. However, it was not a good day for Darwin Nunez in general.
Darwin Nunez struck the woodwork an astounding four times during the game, and if that had not happened, the score would have been even worse. The Blues, who were ranked 10th in the Premier League going into the match, didn’t play as hard against Liverpool as Championship opponents Norwich City managed in their FA Cup match the previous weekend.

Throughout the first half, weak goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic was left utterly exposed by the defensive line-up of Axel Disasi, Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, and, worst of all, Ben Chilwell. Chilwell fumbled the ball away, and Diogo Jota scored Liverpool’s opening goal by breaking through with little resistance from Silva and Badiashile.
Liverpool went on to add 3 more goals after that and crushed Chelsea in Anfield. Not only that, the two teams play again in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in February. It remains to be seen what happens next with Chelsea FC this 2023-24 season.
Darwin Nunez sets an unwanted record in the EPL
In the EPL, Darwin Nunez breaks an undesirable record, but he won’t be pleased with it. The Liverpool striker played a major role in his team’s easy 4-1 victory over Chelsea at home, regaining the Reds’ five-point lead in the standings. Nunez, regrettably, was left off the scoresheet and exited the game with an unfavorable record.

Darwin Nunez struck the woodwork four times during the game, which is a record for the most hits a player has had since Premier League records go back to the 2003–04 campaign. One of these was a penalty that was missed in the opening period when Chelsea was down 2-0 and appeared to be losing ground.
Jurgen Klopp shares his views on Darwin Nunez
Darwin Núñez, who scored zero goals and struck against the post four times in Liverpool’s 4-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea on Wednesday, was dubbed “unlucky” by manager Jurgen Klopp. He said, “It’s crazy that he creates so many. We scored four goals, so who cares about the ones he didn’t score? He will score goals, it will come. He is in outstanding shape, still a bit unlucky, so it’s all fine.”

Liverpool kept their five-point advantage over the closest rivals, Manchester City and Arsenal, thanks to goals from Luis Díaz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Conor Bradley, and Diogo Jota. Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku struck in the second half but it was more of a consolation goal for them.
