Chelsea Football Club looks to be in a very bad position this season. Having started their season with a poor run of performances, they are struggling to bring cohesion and adaptability to the team. The fans are not the ones to hide their anger. And so the club and the players are feeling the wrath of their fans on social media every day.
The Blues drew against Bournemouth on Sunday, September 17. Playing against a team that had just been promoted to the Premier League from the Championship. It wasn’t the result that the fans would have expected. The overall team performance was not even average.

The game had certain moments but Chelsea was not able to capitalize on them. It seems that the manager, Mauricio Pochettino, does not yet have the formula to get the best out of his incredibly expensive squad.
Players like Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke have been brought in by Chelsea for massive sums of money. And these players not being able to perform at the highest stage just raises questions about Chelsea’s massive spending during the transfer window.
Fans do not look happy at all, and they have expressed their unhappiness with some quotes on social media. One fan wrote, “We’re so average it’s sickening”. Another fan wrote, “They’re on relegation form….”. And a fan went as far as to say, “Spent over 1 billion to get outplayed by Bournemouth, Chelsea football club is a meme!”

The comments from the fans are not going to be easy to take for both the players and the club. But they don’t have anyone else to blame for this outcome.
Has the Spending by Chelsea been Justified?
Chelsea FC was overtaken by Todd Boehly from Roman Abramovic in May 2022. Todd Boehly then decided to go on a spending spree in the transfer market. It was not something that the soccer world would have expected.

The Blues began spending incredible sums of money in the market. They brought in players like Wesley Fofana for $85 million, Mykhailo Mudryk for $106 million, Noni Madueke for $37 million, and Enzo Fernandez for $129 million. Moreover, the amount that they have spent doesn’t seem to be justified by the performances they are putting in. They have spent more than a billion dollars so far.
💰Chelsea have broken Barcelona’s record of highest spending in a single season.
Total figures plus the compensation paid for Potter take Chelsea’s spending to €629m in a single season. The previous record was held by Barcelona, with a total outlay of €380m in 2017/18. #CFC pic.twitter.com/3uWgex7GYX

It looks like the Blues have a lot to figure out and correct as the season goes on. They are not in any European competition, which must help them get their squad back to being competitive with the top four in the Premier League. As the season goes on, fans remain hopeful that Chelsea can recover from their bad form and get back to performing at the highest stage.
