Back in January of 2022, social media was taken by storm after footage involving Mason Greenwood was leaked online. The said videos and recordings revealed that the Manchester United star was abusing her partner Harriet Robson.
The charges were dropped in February of this year. Soon after rumors started circulating as Greenwood returned to training. He was heavily criticized by his club and also by the Manchester United Women’s team.
Assessing the situation before it got any worse, Manchester United announced that Greenwood will not play for the club ever again. Despite that United have not terminated his contract yet. They would rather look to sell or loan him as soon as possible. Otherwise, they will have to pay him around 7 to 8 million to cancel the contract.

According to reports Jose Mourinho called Greenwood’s father and told him that the best way out of the situation is to get back on the pitch but it seems less likely that Roma will be able to match his wages of 75000 a week.

United CEO Richard Arnold has said that he is happy Greenwood wasn’t guilty will all the charges pressed against him. But, the decision to leave is the best for both the club and the player. Gary Neville has also criticized how poorly Manchester United handled this situation.
It can be fair to say that United took a good call in the end. Also, it would be better for Greenwood to have a fresh start.
