Alphonso Davies verbally agrees to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2024
In a shocking turn of events, The Athletic has reported that the 23-year-old might soon be on his way to Madrid. Reportedly, Alphonso has two options in front of him, either join ‘Los Blancos’ in the summer of 2024 or join as a free agent the following year.
Real Madrid’s chief scout Juni Calafat and director general Jose Angel Sanchez have all contacted the player’s entourage. The 2019/20 UEFA Champions League winner has already met with the Spanish club’s representatives several times, one being in person in mid-February.
Real Madrid would evade interest from many top clubs to sign the 23-year-old. FC Barcelona and some Premier League clubs were all interested in signing Alphonso, who has his heart set for Madrid.

‘Los Blancos’ are in a desperate need to sign a left-back. Their first-choice left-back, Ferland Mendy is constantly injured and lacks consistency. Fran Garcia hasn’t been able to impress Carlo Ancelotti and would require some time to settle after his move to Real Madrid in 2023.
Therefore, club President Florentino Perez would be looking to lure the Canadian to the Spanish capital as soon as possible. The presence of the duo of VInicius Jr.-Rodrygo and the addition of Kylian Mbappe and, Alphonso Davies might make Real Madrid the scariest and the fastest team in Europe.
FC Bayern Munich does not want to sell the Canadian defender
However, the German club is still hoping to keep their beloved Alphonso Davies. His contract at the Bavarian club ends at the end of the 2024/25 season, but the club is hopeful of extending his stay. Alphonso would want a substantial wage increase and a long-term contract to stay at FC Bayern Munich. The Bayern board is confident of sealing the deal with the Canadian.
The club’s President, Herbert Hainer has publicly declared his willingness to extend the 5-time Bundesliga winner’s contract. He said at a press conference (via Goal), “He’s with us under contract until June 2025, he’s one of the best full-backs in the world. Of course, we want to keep Davies and I hope he wants to stay also.”

The Bayern board has reportedly given their Canadian left-back an ultimatum to either sign the contract extension or leave in the summer. The record German Champions do not want to lose Alphonso for free when his contract expires in 2025 and have set a price tag of $54 million for him. That price tag should not bother a club of Real Madrid’s stature, which has already made its first move in pursuing Alphonso Davies.
