The Cleveland Browns had a great start to their NFL season as they thrashed the Cincinnati Bengals by 24-3. However, it soon turned into misery in their second match against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team not only lost the match by 22-26 but also lost their RB Nick Chubb to an injury. Now, reports suggest that RB Jerome Ford is all set to be the team’s starting RB.
The Browns undoubtedly stood in a difficult position after Chubb’s knee injury. It was too “serious” that the star player would probably miss the whole season. However, the team’s head coach has to come up with a replacement, and he has done it. Browns HC Kevin Stefanski recently announced that Jerome Ford will be their starting RB now. However, at the same time, he mentioned that a player like Nick Chubb couldn’t be replaced.

“You don’t replace Nick Chubb… You just don’t do that. Great players in the league, you look around, they go out — it’s always not one person that replaces a player of his caliber,” he said.
However, anyway, the truth now is that Jerome Ford will be playing the starting RB now. It’s worth noting that the 24-year-old joined the Browns last year. He was the team’s 156th pick in the 5th round. But, now it seems like the 5th-round pick has a huge role to play for the team. In the match against the Steelers, Ford had 16 carries for 106 rushing yards, with an average of 6.6.
The fact that Stefanski chose Ford over Pierre Strong Jr. is proof enough that he believes in the NFL star. Now, it’ll be interesting to see whether Jerome Ford can get the team back on the winning track or not.
A glance at the football stats of Jerome Ford
After attending Armwood High School in Florida, Jerome Ford went to the University of Alabama. The star player played with the team there for two years, in 2018 and 2019. Throughout his tenure there, he had 31 carries and 3 touchdowns while rushing for 151 yards. After spending 2 seasons there, Ford decided to transfer.
The Browns running back joined the University of Cincinnati in 2020. During his 1st season there, he got to play in 10 games while backing up for RB Gerrid Doaks. Jerome Ford utilized the opportunity to the fullest as he got 73 carries and 8 TDs for 483 yards. After noticing his stellar performance, the team decided to make him their starting RB.
It seems like fate has given the same chance to Jerome Ford once again after Nick Chubb’s injury. The star RB couldn’t get enough opportunity last year in his rookie year. However, now that he’ll be the starting RB for the team, he should leave no stone unturned to prove his worth. As for the Browns, they must be expecting Ford to lead the team to the Super Bowl this year.
