Ja’Marr Anthony Chase, more popularly known as Ja’Marr Chase, is a wide receiver who plays for the National Football League NFL team, the Cincinnati Bengals. He played college football for the LSU Tigers (Louisiana State University). Chase was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft as the fifth overall pick.
Ja’Marr Chase has been prolific since coming to the NFL and has already been named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team and the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2021. His college career was nothing less than spectacular, as he was named the Unanimous All-American and won the Fred Biletnikoff Award back in 2019. He has been compared with another sensational wide receiver in the NFL, Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings.
Justin Jefferson is another top player currently and has been a major part of the Vikings’ success up until now. However, recently, in an interview, Ja’Marr Chase made a statement that has become the talk of the town. Chase has made the bold claim that he is better than Justin Jefferson.
“I don’t feel like we’re the two best,” Chase said. “I feel like I’m the best. When asked why he felt so, Chase replied by saying, “Because I’ve always put myself before anybody. My yards-after-catch. I’m more of a running-back threat. That’s what people may say.”
While the debate will rage on for a long time, it’s important to appreciate that the two of them are quality players. What’s more interesting to note is that they played together at LSU! However, there’s a need to have a statistical comparison between the two, and that’s what we are going to do.
Justin Jefferson is way ahead of Ja’Marr Chase when it comes to statistical comparison
While Ja’Marr Chase might feel he is the best wide receiver in the NFL currently, the numbers are clearly in favor of Justin Jefferson. The Vikings star has been nothing short of exceptional in his first three seasons and is already in the record books. He has the highest number of receiving yards for any NFL wide receiver in their first three seasons, with 4,825 yards.
“I’m the best. I don’t feel like we’re the two best. I’m the best.”
Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson top two? Ja’Marr would only say he’s No. 1.

On the other hand Chase is still at 3,593 yards and is still seventh on that list. This is the same story when it comes to receptions as well in the first three seasons and Jefferson is at the top with 324 receptions. Ja’Marr Chase is way below at 10th position with 257 receptions.
It is true that Ja’Marr Chase is ahead of Justin Jefferson in the 2023/24 season with 1,092 receiving yards in comparison to the latter’s 598 yards. Chase is also ahead with 89 receptions compared to Jefferson’s 38. However, when it comes to overall comparison, Justin Jefferson is very tough to beat for Ja’Marr Chase.
