The return of CM Punk has initiated massive waves of excitement among the fans. Not even a fortnight has passed since he made his return, but the fan fervor doesn’t seem to end. Recently, Jim Ross expressed his emotions about his return, uniting fans from both WWE and AEW.
Ross spoke on his Grilling JR podcast, where he gave his comments on Punk’s return. Citing the entire plot as a “perfect booking decision,” Jim Ross honored the great move by Triple H. However, more than that, his return has united all the professional wrestling fans.

“I guarantee you there’s a lot of AEW fans that went to Survivor Series. They’re wrestling fans. They don’t have this brand-bullsh*t where I’m only going to support one brand. So you must not really be a wrestling fan then, right? How… pic.twitter.com/9jyq5GIHFA

“I guarantee you, there’s a lot of AEW fans that went to Survivor Series. They’re wrestling fans, they don’t have this brand bullsh*t where I am only going to support one brand,” he said. AEW and WWE have been in constant competition with each other to gather the maximum viewership.
Jim’s take on the matter has united the fans of the two promotions. He also took a dig at the fans who considered success limited to a particular promotion. “How could you be a wrestling fan and not be happy for the success of others within your industry?” he said.
Jim Ross shares his opinion about CM Punk
During his podcast, Jim Ross didn’t fail to let the audience know about his relationship with CM Punk. He called Punk his friend and claimed that the two aligned on a majority of the issues. However, he seemed quite unhappy with the final days that Punk had in AEW.
“I’m not here to make friends, I’m here to make money” – exactly, and now Punk is finally in a place where he can be booked to make everyone in that company more money. That’s why he was re-hired. Sauce it! #WWERAW

“Hell, I don’t agree with all the sh*t that went on with him. You know, I think he could have handled it a little differently,” Ross added. But, as destiny had wanted it to be, he was released from AEW. However, his WWE debut was glistening enough to hide the bitter end of his AEW run.
Why was CM Punk released from AEW?
In August 2023, CM Punk faced off against Samoa Joe, which came out to be his last match in AEW. As per the reports, CM Punk and Jack Perry got involved in a backstage altercation. The altercation arose at AEW All In at the Wembley Stadium in London over the planning of their segment.
Perry was adamant about using real glass during their match, while Punk didn’t like the idea. He felt that the spot was too dangerous. The difference in their thinking fueled up the matter all the more. Things left all bounds after Perry said, “It’s real glass, cry me a river.” Many reports also claim that CM Punk punched Jack Perry.
