- The Showoff was shockingly released from his WWE contract in September 2023.
Veteran pro wrestler Dolph Ziggler has been in the industry for two decades, and he has worked almost all these years in WWE only. Due to the kind of loyalty he had for the promotion, everyone believed that he’d end his career in the same company, but he was unexpectedly released by the Triple H-led promotion.
In one of the most shocking releases in the organization’s history, Ziggler was terminated from his contract in September 2023. It was something nobody expected, and fans were left disappointed. But, now, after over 3 months of his WWE exit, the 43-year-old has made a major claim about his departure from his former workplace.

This happened during his recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, as he opened up about his departure. In a shocking revelation about his release, The Showoff claimed that he himself asked to be released. Ziggler said, “It wasn’t out of the blue. I had sent emails to the boss over the last few months saying, ‘I have to move on to somewhere else, can you let me do this?” (Via: Wrestling News)
Moreover, the 6-foot-tall in-ring star shared that his exit wasn’t weird because it was like six to ten months in place. Even though staying out of action for 90 days broke his heart, Dolph said he did extra workouts during this period after his release by the Triple H-led promotion.
Dolph Ziggler recently made his grand return to pro wrestling
When WWE announced Ziggler’s release after 19 years with the company, fans were really disappointed. While a lot of people thought that this might be the end of Dolph’s in-ring career, others were sure that he’d make a comeback to continue his passion for professional wrestling.
Doing the latter, The Showoff recently made his return to the industry by making a grand debut in NJPW. Showing up on the promotion’s United Kingdom 18 event under his real name, Nic Nemeth, he made his presence felt. The veteran didn’t come alone, as he was followed by his brother, Ryan Nemeth, to the ringside for the Winners Takes All tag team bout.

Even though they didn’t come out with the intention of a fight, Ziggler got involved in an altercation with David Finlay later. It happened after the latter won his match against the team of Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley. Following this, Nemeth dropped a video featuring him as the Wanted Man on his YouTube channel.
With the former WWE star now officially in NJPW, it remains to be seen how well he can fare on this journey. Moreover, it has been revealed that Nic will be making his in-ring return at WWC’s Euphoria event. Can The Showoff secure a victory in his first match after his WWE release? It’ll be interesting to see how he performs on the January 20 show in Puerto Rico.
