SUMMARY
- Roman Reigns fell short against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.
- Despite that, April 7 holds a very special place in Reigns heart.
Roman Reigns, whose real name is Leati Joseph Anoa’i, is a well-known figure in the professional wrestling industry. He is currently employed by the WWE. Furthermore, Roman Reigns held the title of Undisputed WWE Universal Champion for a record 1,316 days. In addition, he was the head of The Bloodline, a villainous stable.
Plenty of individuals have liked him in his roles as Head of the Table and Tribal Chief. He is a member of the Anoa’i family, as is well known. WWE Superstars Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, and The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, are among his cousins as well. Meanwhile, fans might be surprised to know that Roman is not a single child and used to have a brother.
Just like Reigns, his brother Matthew Tapunu’u Anoa’i, also known as Rosey, was a professional wrestler. Unfortunately, Rosey passed away in 2017 at the age of 47. Congestive heart failure was also listed as the cause of his death. Even though Reigns seems like a real heel, he was overcome with grief when he heard about his late brother Matt.

Matt Anoa’i’s interview with WWE was shown to the Tribal Chief during the most recent WWE and A&E Biography: Legends segment about him. Matt mentions his brother’s commitment to perfection in the interview and projects significant success for Reigns. When Reigns heard his brother’s remarks, he was overtaken with grief.
Roman Reigns had an unexpected gift for his Late brother’s birthday
As WrestleMania XL went down as one of the most successful events for the company, it saw the tragic end of Roman’s historic title reign. Cody Rhodes defied the odds and finished his story cementing and starting a new era in the WWE. With Roman out of the scene for a little while, his loss occurred on a meaningful date in his life.
In a surprising turn of events, Reigns main-evented his biggest WrestleMania showdown against Cody on the same day his late brother was born. Though Roman came up short, his match and performance will always be considered as one of the greatest. As shown in the Roman Reigns documentary, Matt talked about how Roman can become the next big thing in the WWE during one of his older interviews.
“Just his (Roman) focus in the gym, focus all through high school and college, he knew. Joe was set for something great. He’s setting the bar for our family that much higher.”, stated Matt during the excerpt played for Reigns.
Reigns was instantly in tears hearing Matt’s voice and soaked in the moment remembering his late brother. Seeing his reaction, anyone can tell how close both the brothers were and how Matt’s unfortunate demise affected Reigns.

The bond Roman Reigns shared with Rosey
Roman Reigns and Rosey’s admirers have long been curious about the nature of their connection outside of the squared circle. It should be mentioned that Reigns and his brother have never publicly discussed their relationship in the past. The Tribal Chief did, however, previously discuss his brother upon his death.
In an earlier interview, Roman talked candidly about his brother and how he influenced Reigns. He said that his brother was his biggest admirer and that he never missed a match or an event that took place inside the ring. The Bloodline leader added that his brother constantly gave him wise advice throughout.
Speaking more about his brother’s untimely demise, the Head of The Table claimed that he had never lost someone so close. Therefore, it is clear from Roman’s statements that he and his brother had a close relationship and that Reigns was greatly affected by Rosey’s premature death.
