There have been numerous controversial players in the NFL and Antonio Brown is one of them. The star wide receiver kept making headlines for all the wrong reasons throughout his time in the league. However, in June this year, he grabbed the spotlight when he revealed his interest in playing with Tom Brady.
Some time back, Antonio Brown appeared as a guest on the ‘It Need To Be Said’ podcast. There, he was talking about the time he joined the Oakland Raiders after his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the conversation, he mentioned that he left the Raiders because of his wish to play with legend Brady. The star player mentioned that he gave up a $30 million deal with the Raiders as he wanted to “be a champion”.
“So I go to Oakland and I get a big deal… As a player, you just thinking like, Yo! I want to be a champion… So I call Mark Davis… I don’t want to be a Raider. Save him his money… and I got a chance to play with Tom Brady at the Patriots… Appreciate the $30 million. But I already got 30…,” he said.
The 7-time Pro Bowl further mentioned that he was looking for a “championship culture”. As he couldn’t find it with the Raiders, he allegedly saved Mark Davis $30 million. Antonio Brown kept on bragging about how good of a man he was to be honest with Davis. However, it’s worth noting that the Raiders fined Brown $54,000 for uninformed absences from practice sessions.
After the Raiders released him in September 2019, Antonio Brown joined the Patriots the same day. However, after playing one game, the team released him due to sexual misconduct allegations. Notably, Brown got to play with Brady while being with the Buccaneers and even won a Super Bowl. However, it’s worth noting that Brady and Brown don’t share a good relationship anymore due to several reasons.
A look at the NFL career of Antonio Brown
Born in July 1988, Antonio Brown made his NFL debut in 2010 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team drafted him as their 195th pick in the 6th round of the NFL draft. He signed a $1.28 million rookie contract with the Steelers for 3 years. The WR played his first game in the league against the Tennessee Titans.
Brown stayed with the Steelers for 9 years before joining the Oakland Raiders in 2019. However, the team released him just after a single match and the star player went to the Patriots. He couldn’t stay for long with them as well, as the Patriots also released him the same year. After that, Antonio Brown finally joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and played 2 years for them.
Throughout his career, the Super Bowl winner has made 928 receptions and 83 TDs for 12,291 receiving yards. Along with that, Antonio Brown also has 5 return TDs for 2,934 yards. After a 13-year NFL career, Brown announced his retirement in March this year but un-retired again in April.
However, ever since then, the wide receiver is yet to sign a deal with any team. Now only time will tell what the future holds for the NFL star player.
