Not many people might have heard much about the father of Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant. As some fans already know, Durant is an incredibly accomplished and talented NBA player. He is widely considered to be one of the most skilled scorers of his size that the game has ever seen. He has been around the league for many years now and has seen it all.
Although we know a lot about KD’s accomplishments on the court, not much is known about his relationship with his father, Pratt. In fact, Durant hasn’t publicly acknowledged him or even taken on his last name. Instead, he chose to keep his mother’s surname. That begs the question as to what went wrong in the relationship between KD and his father. Let us take a closer look and find out.
Does Kevin Durant have a relationship with his father Wayne Pratt?
This might seem like a stupid question to some fans who do not know the backstory of KD’s life. After all, there can’t be too many NBA stars completely disconnected from their parents. However, it did seem like that was the case between KD and his father. There has been no mention of Wayne Pratt in any way or context by Durant over the years.
He delivered an incredible speech during his MVP acceptance speech. In it, he took a solid amount of time to credit his mother and recognize her for her struggles in raising him and his siblings while living in a state of poverty. However, he didn’t say a single word about his father in contrast. That is because Wayne abandoned his family with KD was merely an infant.
According to the information made public over the years, Pratt soon reentered KD’s life when he was a teenager. However, too much time had passed by and it wasn’t easy to repair their bond. Wayne admitted that it took several years for his children to forgive him.
Despite having enough cause to show animosity towards his father, Durant seems to have taken the high road and tried healing the relationship. It was reported that Wayne defended and counseled his son after KD made the decision to join the Golden State Warriors back in 2017.
At the end of the day, Durant can’t turn back time or change the occurrence of events. We are glad to see that he has been able to move on from his past.
