Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant recently shared his perspective on who the 2022-2023 NBA MVP should be. Fans are certainly aware of the MVP conversation, which has persisted for much of the regular season. To those who do now know, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Joel Embiid are considered to be the front runners for this award.
Since they are all incredible players in their own rights, fans are experts have been struggling to ascertain which player is undoubtedly better than the other. Thankfully, we have Durant’s take on this situation to help sway the confused fans on who the MVP should be. Let us take a closer look at what KD had to say and analyze his opinion on the MVP race.
Kevin Durant wants Joel Embiid to win the 2022-2023 NBA MVP award
Although Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic also have good chances to win the MVP award this year, Durant feels Embiid deserves it the most. The numbers certainly back the 76ers star’s case. He has been playing at a near-historic level this season while carrying his team to a top seed in the Eastern Conference.
Alongside James Harden and the rest of the 76ers, Embiid has seemed unstoppable this season. He has averaged an impressive 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. Moreover, these numbers don’t really indicate what he brings to the table as a defensive force and rebounder for the 76ers.
Durant would likely know Embiid’s skillset better when compared to the average fan. After all, KD has played multiple times against the MVP frontrunner and would certainly be able to compare them. He revealed that Joel Embiid has likely done enough to ensure winning his first MVP award this season.
“It’s not like giving him sympathy…But he’s playing at a dominant level, for the last two years has been at an insane level. Like c’mon now what more does he have to do to become an MVP and they winning basketball games too…He should want to experience what it’s like being an MVP.”
KD makes a valid point. Although he is aware of the narrative that follows players. Durant still feels that Embiid has done more than enough to win the award. While Giannis and Jokic also have good claims for the award, KD still feels that Embiid deserves it the most for this season’s play.
