The basketball world has witnessed a vast amount of talent on display recently. The March Madness tournament just came to an end and it didn’t disappoint fans one bit. Next year, fans were set to witness one of the nation’s best talents, Mikey Williams, on one of the biggest stages in the country. Mikey was recently arrested in San Diego, on suspicion of five counts of assault with a weapon. As per NBC San Diego, Mikey was arrested at 3.30 PM on Thursday, April 13.
Is Mikey Williams still in jail?
Sources claim that Mikey was released by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department in the early hours of Friday, April 14. The bail was set at $50,000 for the high school basketball star. However, it looks like the investigation will continue, to determine what could be done in Mikey’s case.

For those who don’t know, California law states that one count of such a charge could keep the individual in prison for at least six months. If Mikey is proven guilty, he could face more than two years behind bars! This surely would not be the news he was waiting to hear, especially considering the breakthrough he has had in the last few months.

Mikey announced in November 2022 that he would be playing for the University of Memphis from the start of the 2023-24 season. Memphis seems to be a name that continues to make waves on social media. Just over a few weeks ago, Memphis Women’s basketball star Jamirah Shutes was charged with assault after punching Bowling Green’s Elissa Brett.

The young star would be hoping that he gets out of these charges, at least for the sake of his basketball career. Memphis Athletics even released a statement on the situation, “We are aware of the situation and are gathering more information.” It certainly looks like his career could get affected, but only time will tell if he will be called in for questioning again.
