Philadelphia 76ers star player Joel Embiid set a new team record by scoring a career-high 70 points in a game against the San Antonio Spurs. This outstanding achievement surpassed the previous record held by the legendary Wilt Chamberlain. Embiid’s performance led the 76ers to an impressive 133-123 win.
Embiid dominated the court from the start of the game, he used his strength and speed to overcome Spurs defenders, including rookie Victor Wembanyama. He proved his scoring skills by shooting 24 of 41 from the field and 21 of 23 from the free-throw line. He needed just one made 3-pointer on two attempts to reach the historic number.
Embiid’s feat was further highlighted by the fact that it came at the same time as Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns scored 62 points. This was only the fourth time in NBA history that two players scored over 60 points on the same day.

Embiid reached 50 points with more than four minutes left in the third quarter and tied his previous career-high of 59 points before the quarter ended. With 1:41 remaining, Embiid broke Chamberlain’s record (68 points) with a coast-to-coast layup, bringing his total to 70 points. This performance places Embiid among the top nine NBA players who have scored 70 or more points in a single game.
Joel Embiid’s second-highest scoring game was against the Utah Jazz
Before this record-breaking 70-point game, Joel Embiid had previously set his career-high against the San Antonio Spurs on November 13, 2022. In this game, Embiid scored 59 points, along with 11 rebounds, 8 assists, and 7 blocks. His dominance was especially seen in the fourth quarter when he scored 26 of the 76ers’ 27 points and made five of his seven blocks.
Embiid also made new records in the NBA with his 59-point game. He became the first player since the official recording of blocks in 1973-74 to achieve at least 50 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 blocks in a single game. He also made a record for scoring 20 points and securing five blocks in a single quarter in the past 25 seasons.
Embiid became the first player to outscore both teams by himself in a fourth quarter (26-21) since Tracy McGrady in 2006. He also became the fourth player along with Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Bradley Beal, who scored at least 100 points across a back-to-back game since the NBA-ABA merger, and he was the first center to do so since Wilt Chamberlain in 1967.
