In the world of the NBA, few names resonate as powerfully as Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Greek Freak has taken the league by storm with his exceptional skills and towering presence. But what makes his journey even more remarkable is the Antetokounmpo family’s incredible story.

They were born to Charles and Veronica Antetokounmpo and raised in Athens, Greece, Giannis and his four brothers have pursued their dreams of professional basketball. Additionally, made history along the way.

Emigrating from Nigeria to Greece in search of a better life, Charles and Veronica provided their children with an opportunity to chase their dreams. The five brothers grew up in Athens, Greece, where they honed their athletic talents.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers were born in Greece, to Nigerian migrants who struggled to find work.

The boys sold watches on the street to make ends meet.

Additionally, they have a YouTube channel, AntetokounBrosTV, where they share their lives and adventures. But it doesn’t stop there; the brothers are also actively involved in giving back to people through AntetokounBros Academy.

In a thrilling turn of events, three of the brothers, Giannis, Thanasis, and Alex, set forces in the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend for the Skills Challenge. This extraordinary family reunion on the basketball court captured the hearts of NBA fans worldwide.

Have Giannis Antetokounmpo’s brothers played in the NBA?

The Antetokounmpo brothers’ talent in basketball speaks volumes. Francis, born in Nigeria, made a name for himself as a professional soccer player in both Nigeria and Greece. However, what makes Francis stand out is his musical talent. Performing under the name Ofili, he released his debut single, “Shekosi,” and music video in 2020, showcasing his versatility as an artist.

Thanasis, the second eldest brother, followed a path that led him from the Greek minor leagues to the NBA. After being drafted by the New York Knicks and later joining the Milwaukee Bucks, he played a crucial role in the Bucks’ 2021 NBA Championship victory. He also hosts his own podcast, Thanalysis, showcasing his multifaceted interests.

Giannis, the middle sibling, is undoubtedly the most celebrated of the Antetokounmpo brothers. His rise from a humble background in Greece to NBA superstardom is nothing short of extraordinary. He has achieved multiple MVP awards and led the Milwaukee Bucks to their 2021 NBA Championship. 

Kostas, the second youngest brother, carved his own path to success in the NBA. After playing college basketball for the University of Dayton, he was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers and later joined the Los Angeles Lakers, where he became the first Greek-born player to win an NBA championship in 2020.

The youngest of the Antetokounmpo brothers, Alex, is making his mark on the basketball scene. His decision to forgo college basketball and play in Europe speaks volumes about his determination to prepare for the NBA. He recently signed a contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, but was waived just a day later.

Alex’s potential could have been endorsed by none other than his older brother, Giannis. The Antetokounmpo family’s remarkable journey has inspired countless aspiring athletes. Remarkably, their Disney+ biopic ‘Rise’ was released in 2022.
