With the 2023 season completed, there is only one seat available in F1 for 2024. Logan Sargeant is the only driver in the current grid whose seat in F1 is not confirmed for 2024. Every other driver will be continuing with the same team as 2023.
After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, James Vowles was asked if Logan would continue to drive for Williams for the 2024 season. For this, he replied:
“He will always remain a part of our academy. We are not in a position to confirm [Logan’s seat] just at this point in time. I’m proud of the steps he’s made across this year.”
Logan Sargeant had a very mediocre season when compared to his teammate. Alex Albon is the only driver on the grid to have out-qualified his teammate in every race this season. This is not an impressive stat for Logan Sargeant.

The American driver only managed to score 1 point this season. with that, he finished 21st in a 20-car grid. Liam Lawson who replaced Daniel Ricciardo from the Dutch Grand Prix in the Qatar Grand Prix managed to score 2 points with AlphaTauri, which is considered to be slower than the Williams.
This has not given Logan a good reputation. James Vowles once said that no decisions will be made before the Abu Dhabi GP. Now with the final race of the season completed, we could get some news on Logan’s future in F1. There are a number of potential replacements lined up for Williams. Either of these could be a good option.
Who could replace Logan Sargeant at Williams in 2024?
With Williams improving their performance with every season, they will be looking to have a strong driver lineup. Judging by this season, doesn’t seem like Logan Sargeant is the right person. Alex Albon on the other hand has been praised for his performances with William.
Albon was initially dropped by Red Bull for a lack of performance. Last season he was picked up by Williams to replace George Russell who had left the team to join Mercedes. Albon’s contract currently extends till the end of the 2024 season.
The 2nd seat for Williams is uncertain as it stands. If Williams chooses to replace Logan Sargeant, there are a few options for the team.

One option that can be looked at is Mercedes junior driver, Frederick Vesti. Vesti had an impressive season in Formula 2 where he finished P2. He took the fight to the Championship leader until the last race of the season. Unfortunately, Theo Pourchaire had done just enough to secure the F2 Championship.
However, Frederick Vesti did manage to win 6 races which is more than any of the other drivers in the 2023 Formula 2 Championship. This will give him a good chance to make the jump to F1 and replace Logan Sargeant. Williams and Mercedes have a good relationship with each other. The current Team Principal for William, James Vowles was previously employed at Mercedes. So there is a good chance that Vesti will join Williams in the near future.
Another driver who could join Williams is Mercedes reserve driver, Mick Schumacher. Mick has already had some experience in F1 with Haas. However, he was let go by the American team after the 2022 season. He has been looking for a way back to the grid since then. Hopefully, his connections with Mercedes will help him get a seat back on the grid.
