After his untimely exit from Haas, Guenther Steiner seems to be working on personal projects which include his book, ‘Surviving to Drive.’ The book provided readers with an insider’s perspective on the tumultuous 2022 season of the American outfit. However, there seems to be a second edition or a sequel to the first book after its tumultuous success.
150,000 copies of the first book, which was initially written as a journal for the year, were sold. Steiner’s popularity soared in recent years, largely attributed to the cult status he attained through the Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive.’ Steiner remains resolute in his literary endeavors despite Haas choosing not to renew his contract for the 2024 season.
Guenther Steiner prepares sequel to bestselling book
Before leaving Haas, Steiner had already laid the groundwork for his second book. Humorously, he acknowledges that recent events may alter the narrative to an extent. ‘Surviving to Drive,’ his first book, was written in tandem with ghostwriter James Hogg following Steiner’s approach. Published by Penguin Random House in the UK, the book delved into the episodes from Steiner’s earlier career.

The book’s success expanded its availability to twelve languages, with a UK paperback edition slated for March this year. According to the former Haas boss, “We are working on the second book at the moment. That was planned already before. Now, obviously, the story maybe changes a little bit!”
The former team lead and Hogg initiated their second collaboration just as Steiner’s departure from Haas grabbed headlines. Despite this, he remains dedicated to the project, recalling the fondness of signing sessions with fans in across stores. There is no doubt that his retirement has been emotionally burdening for the Italian, but he seemed to have moved on.
However, Steiner dismisses any notion that his writing and Netflix appearances diverted his attention from Haas.
New Haas boss faces rejection from former F1 driver
While Ralf Schumacher and Guenther Steiner may not have been the closest of pals, the former F1 driver expressed a tinge of sadness. Addressing the split on a media channel, Schumacher, acknowledged their distant relationship. He described Steiner as a “brand” leaving the Formula 1 stage. However, the German does not seem to be a big fan of the new Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu.

However, Schumacher believes that former Alpine boss Otmar Szafnauer, with his extensive F1 experience, would be the wiser choice. He stated, “Otmar is someone who is well-known in Formula 1 and who also has expertise. Having this foresight and generating new people to take the team forward is a skill that I trust Otmar to have.”
Nevertheless, Schumacher stresses the worth of Steiner’s reputation that he built over the years and the perks it provided the team.
