A recent job listing from Monolith Productions suggested that the upcoming Wonder Woman game will have live service elements. Putting all rumors to dust, Warner Bros. has confirmed that their focus in Wonder Woman will be squarely on single-player.
As per reports, Monolith Production, the developer behind games like Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, was actively looking for a lead software engineer of gameplay to work on their upcoming project, Wonder Woman. According to the job description, they were looking at candidates who have experience in “helping maintain a live software product or game“.
This gave rise to rumors that the Wonder Woman game may have live service. Live service games are usually supported for a long time after launch with seasonal expansions and often have microtransactions for other elements such as cosmetics and weapons.
Wonder Woman will Be a Single-Player game
This news was particularly surprising since Wonder Woman was announced as a single-player, open-world action game that would have an original story. Ever since its first announcement in December 2021, neither developer Monolith nor publisher Warner Bros. Games had mentioned the presence of live service elements in Wonder Woman previously.
After the rumors following the job posting began circulating, Warner Bros. issued a statement to IGN wherein it denied that Wonder Woman would be a service game. The spokesperson from Warner Bros. said, “Wonder Woman is a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open world. This third-person experience will allow players to become Diana of Themyscira and introduce an original story set in the DC Universe while also featuring the Nemesis System. Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service.”
Earlier the CEO of Warner Bros., David Zaslav, had stated that the company is focused on transforming its “biggest franchises from largely console and PC-based with three-four year release schedules to include more always-on gameplay through live services, multiplatform, and free-to-play extensions, with the goal to have more players spending more time on more platforms“.

Wonder Woman was initially announced by the devs in December 2021. With the announcement, they had shared a brief teaser trailer and description. The description read, “She will fight to unite the warriors of two worlds. You are Wonder Woman“, it said.
Meanwhile, another DC title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, is also close to its launch. Warner Bros. Games has confirmed a February 2024 release for the game. It was previously planned to be a story-based game featuring up to four-player co-op will now be a live-service game needing a permanent online connection. The pre-orders for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League are currently live.
