HBO’s The Last of Us series based on Naughty Dog’s superhit game of the same name won big at the recently concluded 75th Primetime Emmy Awards 2023. The award night, which was scheduled to take place in September 2023 was delayed due to the writers’ strike and actors’ strike, but was finally held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California on January 6, 2023.
The series adaptation of the game won the most number of awards at the ceremony with eight awards. Making headlines at the ceremony was actor Nick Offerman who won the award for his guest appearance in the series.
Which Emmy awards did The Last of Us win?

This was the most number of awards won by any series at the awards. It was followed by FX’s “The Bear,” Netflix’s “Wednesday” and HBO’s “The White Lotus” with four awards each while Netflix’s “Beef” bagged three trophies. Notably, the game adaptation had the second-highest nominations in 24 categories, just behind HBO’s Succession with 27 nominations.
Nick Offerman wins ‘Best Guest Actor’
American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and woodworker, Nick Offerman stole the show winning the Emmy for Best Drama Guest Actor. Nick plays the role of Bill in the series which has actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the lead playing Joel and Ellie over the eight episodes of the first season.
Offerman was nominated for the episode “Long, Long Time,” wherein Bill lives a solitary life on his compound when the epidemic breaks out. However, his uneasy quiet is interrupted when Murray Bartlett’s Frank stumbles upon the land. Initially, Bill is reluctant to support the stranger but eventually agrees to feed him.
At first, Bill wants Frank to be on his way immediately, however, they end up bonding over their love of music and food, sparking romance. The episode then shows their time together across the years, thus representing an LGBTQ+ love story. The two then strike up a friendship with Anna Torv’s Tess and Pedro Pascal’s Joel before Frank faces a terminal illness.
Notably, this marks the 53-year-old actor’s first career victory with the Television Academy. Prior to this, he was nominated three times for hosting the reality program “Making It.” however, he did not win.
