It’s been a while since Elon Musk has been trying to add the streaming feature to his owned social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). And now that the feature is up and live, streamers and influencers are seen to be reluctant to consider the monetization opportunities.
Elon Musk has implemented major changes to X after he bought the platform in October 2022. One of his main focuses was to add a streaming feature on X, giving the streamers a new way to monetize their content. He even elaborated on the revenue model, that stood out from other streaming platforms.
The Tesla CEO has been reportedly engaging in talks with famous YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as MrBeast for years. After testing the feature himself, Elon expressed his appeal to enhance X’s competitiveness with YouTube. Recently, MrBeast decided to try out the feature for himself and to see how much money he could make from X.
How much did MrBeast make from his first X post?
MrBeast had earlier stated that he would not upload videos on X streaming. Elon had reportedly been asking the YouTuber to upload videos on the social media site. However, MrBeast cited the reason saying that his videos “cost millions to make.” He added that uploading a video on X will not fund “a fraction” of the cost involved in making the video.
$1 Car vs $100,000,000 Car!!!
I’m curious how much ad revenue a video on X would make so I’m reuploading this to test it. Will share ad rev next week ❤️ pic.twitter.com/amSSmddFht

Nonetheless, the YouTuber uploaded a video for the first time directly on the microblogging platform X as an experiment to try the platform. He posted the 16 minutes and 28 seconds long clip titled “$1 vs $100,000,000 Car.” He mentioned in the description, “I’m curious how much ad revenue a video on X would make so I’m reuploading this to test it. Will share ad rev next week.”
The SpaceX founder was delighted to see the YouTuber upload a video and immediately reshared the post on his handle. “First MrBeast video posted directly on X!,” Elon wrote. Notably, within just seven hours of uploading, the video managed to amass 27 million views.
Contrary to what MrBeast anticipated, the results were extremely rewarding. A week after the video was posted, MrBeast shared that he had made $263,655 from his experiment. Naturally, it left him and the fans stunned at the jaw-dropping earnings.
MrBeast calls it a facade
Although the result was impressive, MrBeast ensured to clarify the reason why his video worked and his thoughts on the model. He stated that most other creators may not see the numbers he made by uploading their content on the site. MrBeast went on to call his success a “facade.”
MY FIRST X VIDEO MADE OVER $250,000! 😲
But it’s a bit of a facade. Advertisers saw the attention it was getting and bought ads on my video (I think) and thus my revenue per view is prob higher than what you’d experience pic.twitter.com/nViVpZbWBb

He exclaimed, “MY FIRST X VIDEO MADE OVER $250,000!” He further added, “But it’s a bit of a facade. Advertisers saw the attention it was getting and bought ads on my video (I think), and thus my revenue per view is probably higher than what you’d experience.”
Notably, after the video was uploaded, several X users reported that the video was being promoted as an “undisclosed ad.” Many users claimed to have seen the video pop up on their timelines, while some even claimed that they saw the video every time they opened the app.
