SUMMARY
- Sega has revealed several new projects in the coming years including a Jet Set Radio reboot.
- The reboot will fix one of the original Jet Set Radio's biggest flaws and give it an open world instead.
A recently revealed slide presentation from a management meeting at Sega offered information on the upcoming reboot titles that the publisher is working on. At the 2023 Game Awards, Sega revealed that it was working on five classic franchises, namely Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage.
Ahead of the official reveal earlier this month, there were rumors appearing occasionally on the internet about Sega probably reviving some of its classic franchises. Earlier this month, Sega also released a debut trailer showing all five games in action featuring the slogan “Power the Next Level.”
In 2022, fans were convinced that Sega may be working on Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio titles. Supporting the beliefs, rumors of Jet Set Radio resurfaced multiple times in the next year. And because Sega has enjoyed several successful campaigns over the past few years, it seems like a matter of time before the publisher brings back some of its classic franchises.
Jet Set Radio Reboot to be open-world
Although the devs have not yet offered specifics, its most recent presentation slides provide a sneak peek into what fans can expect from the upcoming titles. Among them, the most satisfying news came for fans of the Jet Set Radio franchise. Sega has officially confirmed that the upcoming Jet Set Radio Reboot will be an open-world game.
The makers are describing Jet Set Radio Reboot as a counter-culture Tokyo street open-world setting. The description further reads, “Tokyo Street Open World Experience the “rebellion” movement that feels free in a suffocating society. Make friends, increase your fans, and create a movement!”

Jet Set Radio is a 2000 action game, which was developed by Smilebit and published by Sega. It was an action-adventure simulation sports video game wherein players control a member of a youth gang, the GGs, as they use skates to travel across Tokyo, spraying graffiti, challenging rival gangs, and evading authorities.
Although the game was highly reviewed and liked, with 9/10 on Steam, the only change that fans wished for was that the game could be even more amusing if it was open-world. With Sega now announcing that the upcoming Reboot is open-world, seems like a major problem of the original may finally be solved.
Sega reveals details on other titles
The slide presented at a management meeting last week also revealed additional details on the upcoming titles from Sega as follows:
- Crazy Taxi: Innovative and Fresh Style Driving Action!
The game will offer a cheerful feeling of freedom with a fusion of nature and the city. The devs urge players to peel out the new stage of Crazy City! - Shinobi: Slay the enemies in the silence of the moment

Sega surely has some great plans ahead for fans of their classic franchises. It will be interesting to see if they are able to do justice to these remakes or what the fate holds.
