Helldivers 2 breaks records
Helldivers 2 has been setting records since day one of its release, both in the number of concurrent players as well as the number of copies it sold. It first surpassed 2024’s first hit game Palworld becoming the number one top seller through pre-orders alone.
The co-op shooter then surpassed 250,000 concurrent players on Steam and it continued to grow over the opening weekend. Helldivers 2’s new highest concurrent player count peak on Steam stands at an impressive 276,364 players, according to SteamDB.
Helldivers 2 surpasses Halo Infinite
With that Helldivers 2 surpassed the all-time peak concurrent player count of Xbox Game Studios and 343 Industries’ first-person shooter, Halo Infinite, on Valve’s PC game distribution storefront. Notably, Halo Infinite is Xbox Game Studios’ most successful live service game on the platform.
Its competitor, Sony’s IP Helldivers 2, has achieved greater success, based on the all-time peak concurrent players on Steam. While Halo Infinite’s concurrent player peak count was 272,586. And with 276,364, Helldivers 2 has successfully beat that.
PlayStation game Helldivers 2 has now surpassed the peak concurrent players for the free-to-play Xbox game Halo Infinite on Steam:

The game also became Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first title to achieve the feat on launch day and date with the console version. Positive reviews and crossplay support on the game’s PS5 version further helped the game keep the momentum going.
Halo Infinite, had also seen a similar kind of success on launch however, it failed to gain much traction on Steam. It was earlier reported that there are more players playing Call of Duty games which are over a decade old on Microsoft’s console as compared to the number of players playing Halo Infinite and Battlefield 2042 combined.
Also, it must be noted that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is free-to-play, as against Helldivers 2 which is paid. This makes the achievement extra impressive. Additionally, Halo Infinite’s PC version was available across multiple platforms, including Windows Store, Game Pass, and Steam, while Helldivers 2 is a Steam exclusive.
