SUMMARY
- Helldivers 2 has become a co-op phenomenon ever since it released.
- Players have created their own co-op rules that everybody in the community unanimously follows.
Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers was a fantastic game in its own right, the sequel to the 2015 game is already looking like one of the best multiplayer games of 2024 and a major advance over the original. The gameplay of Helldivers 2 heavily focuses on the multiplayer elements and teams up to four players in its third-person shooting gameplay.
In the game, players need to join hands with other members of the squad and fight against a common enemy to defend their home planet. Therefore, coordination of team play in real-time becomes essential for these kinds of games that require deep collaboration between players.
In contrast to several cooperative games, Helldivers 2 gameplay is designed in such as way that it might get harsh on irresponsible teammates since it permits unintentional friendly fire, which can result in injuries or even fatalities.
Helldivers 2 community set up co-op rules
As discussed, the game might get difficult for beginners, and therefore, the Helldivers 2 community has come out to make the game an enjoyable experience for all. The game can become a good experience for all if players follow certain basic etiquette.
One such list of etiquette can be seen on the Helldivers subreddit, where user RhuanSqx compiled a list of unwritten guidelines that they believed others should be aware of and follow. The whole idea behind the list is to assist players who might be having trouble playing the game, which primarily emphasizes teamwork, along with providing ideas on how to maximize the gameplay experience.
RhuanSqx has given the following guidelines:
- Fist of all, have fun.
- Don’t loot/get the equipment of your fallen teammates, only do it if they tell you to do it.
- Let all the team resupply, grab only one cache, let everyone grab at least one each.
- Don’t throw the respawn beacon in the middle of a swarm attack.
- Don’t walk through in the way your teammates is shooting.
- Be careful where you position your stratagems.
- Loot your teammates samples, they are shared, do make sure to take them.
- Make respawn a weapon to kill big guys, but careful to not throw them in the swarm.
- Place your turrets in a elevated position.
- Don’t shoot every enemy you see, don’t waste ammo unnecessary.
- Reload your weapons before taking the resupply.
- Stay with the host, act like a squad.
- Watch out for your non-jerk teammates, don’t leave them behind.
- Communicate, even if you don’t have a mic, use the radial point system, you can point things for your teammates.
In order to help new players become good team members, the rules addressed several best practices for acclimating them to the special features of Helldivers 2.
