SUMMARY
- Helldivers 2 shook the industry in more ways than one.
- The game introduces a very simple progression system, that does not involve a lot of grinding.
Helldivers 2 offers players the perfect amount of thrill and challenge as they navigate through the game. And the progression makes the game even more interesting. Although the progression system in Helldivers 2 is not one of the simplest, it has multiple elements like XP, levels, medals, requisition slips, and samples that can be obtained throughout the game in very different ways.
Not only that but there are elements of the game that might surprise people, such as the fact that getting kills doesn’t provide experience or any bonus reward – so that friend bragging about their K/D spread isn’t actually getting anything for their superior performance. We’ll explain the progression and leveling up in Helldivers 2 below, as well as the different currencies and rewards built into the game, and how you can get them all.
Helldivers 2 progression system explained
Helldivers 2 progression system grants players specific rewards and experiences on completing both optional and mission-essential objectives, instead of how many bugs and bots the player has killed along the way. The higher the number of objectives the player completes, the higher the payout.
At the end of a given mission, the game tallies up the following:
- Primary objectives: The rewards are awarded for completing the main parameters of a mission. If a player dies before this point, they probably do not get anything.
- Secondary objectives: These are marked with blue icons on the map. The game could include anywhere from zero to three side missions to complete based on map size and difficulty. Each mission a player completes, adds to your final reward total.
- Factories / Nests: Maps usually have areas marked in red to represent either Factories that create Bots, or Nests that make Bugs. Each factory or nest destroyed offers a bonus reward. Bigger Nests and Factory facilities have bigger rewards.
- Helldivers extracted: The game also offers a reward for every opponent that a player extracts alive at the end of the game. Thus the best bet is to get everybody out. However, irrespective a TPK is still rewarded, as long as players complete some objectives before they die.
- Time Remaining: Every mission comes with a time limit. The faster a player completes the mission, the more they get rewarded for efficiency.
- Difficulty: Difficult missions add a multiplier to the player’s final payout. This means, the harder the challenge, the more one gets rewarded.
The reward for finishing missions and all the objectives are XP and Requisition Slips. Notably, all rewards are shared equally among the entire team when the mission ends, irrespective of who played what role. The currencies in Helldivers 2 include XP, requisition slips, medals, samples, and supercredits.
How to unlock higher difficulties in Helldivers?
Unlocking the higher difficulties is pretty basic in Helldivers 2. Players simply need to complete a full operation on the previous difficulty. Interestingly, the operations will have different numbers of missions linked to them based on what difficulty one starts them at.
The increasing numbers are required as one climbs up the chain in this highly acclaimed game. In total, there are nine levels of difficulty available in Helldivers 2 to be unlocked. These include Trivial, Easy, Medium, Challenging, Hard, Extreme, Suicide Mission, Impossible, and Helldiver.
However, this does not affect the enemy’s health. It encounters different threats and different mission types, based on the challenge one has chosen.
